As someone who hates making mistakes I've spent almost three decades checking the spelling of any word I am not sure of before I post something online. I mean, I am on the Internet... I can look up any word!

Meanwhile, in 2024 the majority of people just "TIPE WERDS IN BOCKS!" and don't give a shit how wrong they are... In fact they wear it like a badge of honor.

People who knew me as a "techie guy" over a decade ago are sometimes surprised at how critical I am of new technology.

But maybe tech has gotten worse, influenced more and more by greed... or maybe I've become much more ethical with age.

Or maybe both are true?

I'm 100% fine with being more ethical. Historically though I've always been a fan of DIY/low cost/open technology solutions over integrated/proprietary bullshit from corporations.

(And yeah, I'm still a hypocrite in some ways. Sorry!)

Went for a 2 mile (3.2km) walk today forgetting I noticed some holes in my sock this morning.. By the end of the walk I relearned a lesson I learned as a kid... Holey socks leads to blisters, and they suck.

@wimpy True story, I submitted a project to https://nlnet.nl/ whose goal is to fix this and provide a service that I can use in @pidgin 3 and they rejected it without asking any questions.

Haven't gotten to the point of needed it yet for Pidgin 3 but that day keeps getting closer and closer.

That said I've been brainstorming with a friend who did a bunch of work on the openembed stuff in synapse, the python based matrix homeserver which as you would have guessed as a similar issue.
