An Ogunquit Sunrise

This beautiful print is available at:

https://pixels.com/featured/an-ogunquit-sunrise-scott-loring-davis.html

A serene sunrise casts warm golden hues over the rugged coastline of Ogunquit Maine, as waves crash against the rocky shoreline. Above, a pastel sky transitions from golden orange to a soft blue, with a lone cloud glowing near the rising sun.

01/05/2024 OMG! What happened to your MC's parents?

  1. Esther’s father was one of the richest golden boys of his time. For most, he was a successful business angel...
  2. For his family, he was a demon: Obsessed with social recognition, we must be tools to help him rise higher and higher.
  3. Remove a small brick from the building, and the whole building is ready to collapse

02/05/2024 Have you had an idea part way through a project that requires extensive rewriting of what you've already done?

Erie was initially a spy in disguise at the Chamberlain service, with serious witchy and warrior skills. I rewrote her for R. Leblanc contest in 2023, making her far less badass. She is now just a young leonine, without much trump cards in her hands, trying to get out of her condition.

Érié practicing some witchcraft in a rocky landscape. Seated on a rock, she’s casting a spell that appears with light Fx around her.
Érié as she is now: very upset by her first meeting with Dr Moreau, she’s climbing stairs crying

03/05/2024 Does your work include pictures, maps or other custom graphics? Share your pics.

Hmm yes, having images is even the principle of a comic book😁

Page 02 of the 1st issue of Esther and Erie: Erie’s entering, informing Esther that it’s time for her to prepare, the doctor takes time off

04/05/2024 What's the worst thing about being a writer artist?

According to Les Etats généraux de la bande dessinée (General States of the Comics), 33% of the comics artists were living below poverty level in France in 2017. Things didn’t change for the best since

A few months ago, a movement for a European artist status has been launched, including hashtags & I did a supporting art

#writerscoffeeclub 05/05/2024 Is there a certain kind of story or arc that is easier for you to write as a short story than others?

Until now, and with the exception of the initial story, all Inktober have been prequels about the youth of a character:
⁃ 2020: Youth of the Chamberlain
⁃ 2022: Youth of Erie
⁃ 2023: Youth of Esther

Inktober 2022 Day 01: Mrs Helen and her husband are travelling on a canoe to the Great North to meet the Leonines and evangelise them.
Inktober 2023 Day 01: Esther is dreaming about her teen years; the dream starts with her in the attic of her father’s mansion

01/05/2024 Introduce your setting as if it's a character in your story.

The McAlistair mansion POV: “I’m currently the host of Esther and her strange little maid. Before I belonged to Esther’s husband, but he wasn’t with them when they came back from the colonies. Something has happened there, I don’t know what, but it makes Esther ill. The little strange maid tries her best to help.”

03/05/2024 MC POV: What do you dislike about yourself?

I’ve been far too innocent and naive. I didn’t want to see that my father was leading us directly to the disaster

[Illustration: excerpts from Inktober 2019 and 2023]

Inktober 2023 Day 09 A tear drips down my cheek as I rethink my young years. I was so innocent and naive. Zoom on Esther’s head, she’s crying while sleeping in a chair

#wordweavers 05/05/2024 Are there characters or events that challenge your MC's belief system?

That’s the plot: the events at the Chamberlain’s Seminary will completely challenge the way Esther sees the world. I could quote @NaraMoore answer:
That the supernatural is real
⁃ The desirability of social conformity
⁃ That no one can be trusted (except Erié)
⁃ The world is a cursed place
