Lost Themes IV: Noir is coming this May.
Does anybody else ever think how messed up it is that unless you go out of your way (or live in a very rural area), you are bombarded with ads for the entire time you are awake.
Ads on your phone
Ads on your TV
Ads on every place they can buy outside
Ads on almost every website
It is honestly exhausting, and I wonder what a world with heavily limited ads would look like.
Incidentally, the lack of ads is one of the very nice things about self hosting things, and being on fedi.
Really cool Fango piece on the differences between The Thing film and the book it was based on. Some wild differences, and some good history on the movie. This was a great read.
Blair's computer simulation scene from "The Thing" (1982) still freaks me out today; the abstractness of its early-80's graphics make it scary in a timeless way that, say, 90's CGI would totally fail to do
On this day (November 4) in 1988, John Carpenter's THEY LIVE was released.
Did a recent rewatch of this recently and it holds up. Disturbingly accurate as to what's still going on in the world today (and maybe has always and will always go on in the world, with corruption, greed, etc.)
Have you noticed in the 1982 #film#TheThing by #JohnCarpenter that in one scene, Windows freezes and Mac burns? Meanwhile the penguins are quietly running around outside without any trouble.
