I'm on the left but have eclectic views on a lot of things. I don't really like the Fediverse's over-the-top political culture. I'm looking for people who are not so political to follow and interact with.
UPDATE: We and our partner shelters are extending our fee-waived #GuineaPig adoptathon for an entire week, now through January 14! The decision follows the discovery of 17 little guinea pigs in a box outside our #CapeCod Adoption Center over the weekend 1/
We don’t know their story, but it’s clear that the family who left the guinea pigs got in over their heads and wanted to ensure they ended up somewhere safe. Given the population increase and the impact yesterday’s snow had on some shelters’ hours, we decided to extend the fee-waived adoption event 2/
Stop by any of our four adoption centers, the Animal Rescue League of #Boston, #Lowell Humane, Dakin Humane, or APCSM during open hours today through next Sunday, January 14 to adopt one (or two!) of these little cuties fee-free!
NEW: We’re partnering with several animal welfare orgs to host a fee-waived adoptathon for guinea pigs this weekend–January 5 through 7! The event follows a recent surrender of 55 guinea pigs from a single home to the Animal Rescue League of Boston. We took in 20 of the pets, whose owners purchased guinea pigs from pet stores where they were incorrectly sexed, resulting in many litters 1/
Can confirm, I had guinea pigs as a kid. We made the mistake of putting their cages in earshot of the refrigerator and the shrieking started as soon as you opened the produce drawer. Lord, grant me their boldness.

Big news! The Boston City Council voted unanimously today to add guinea pigs to the list of animals that are no longer allowed to be sold in pet shops. We are thankful to the #Boston City Council, and particularly sponsor Councilor Liz Breadon, for passing this measure 1/
I had Socks at the vet again today, just for his progress check.
She's happy to continue how we've been going, with syringe feeds every couple of hours. He weighed in at 780g (her scale always weighs him a bit lighter than mine), and she gave him a good check over. His stomach is still soft and fine, his mouth and teeth look ok, his heart sounds great. His breathing was a little quick, but we think it was more to do with the stress of a waiting room full of dogs than anything else because I haven't noticed him breathing quickly otherwise.
So, the plan is to continue with how we're going now and check in again in early January.
In other cavie news.. Pikelet is off to the vet in the morning to be desexed. I've just packed her a little lunchbox with snacks, and I feel like I'm sending her off to her first day of kindy 😆
It's important to have female guinea pigs desexed before they turn about 2 years old, because they start developing ovarian cysts and cancers due to their hormone levels if they don't have litters.
This little guy has finally broken 800g, weighing in at 817g this evening.
I'm not quite counting it as a win yet, because we still have a couple of hundred grams left to go, and because this was his evening weight after his feeds today.. his morning weight was 760g this morning.
Also, he has a touch of bumble foot on both front paws, which I'm treating with saline soaks.
He has another vet appointment next week.. I'm still hoping I may be able to cancel it.
The best piggo in my bunch, Winnie, passed away overnight.😔
This is the 2nd of my #GuineaPigs I've lost over the last 4 months, and she and Frisk leave behind a beautiful chonker of a sister named Chloe
She was easily my favorite (if you've seen my timeline that likely goes without saying). She was a birthday present to myself and we spent a lot of together time healing her leg injury so she was my bud
Give your pigs some extra lettuce today in memory of my lovely Sir Winston 🥬
