As you may have noticed, the pace of these announcements has slowed down a bit. Indeed, I decided to post only one per month; I think that’s enough. This month, I’ve got some good news and some bad news. Here we go!
#️⃣ Finally, I would like to share a nice project created by @dansup, the man behind @pixelfed: the Fediverse People Directory!
He just redesigned it, and it allows you to find people to follow based on topics (hashtags). To add your account, all you have to do is add the #fedi22 hashtag to your bio, don’t forget some topic hashtags you're interested in, and submit your account!
If you are on one of the many Fediverse platforms and want to be more discoverable I highly suggest adding your profile to this opt-in directory. If you aren’t sure how: first, add the #fedi22 hashtag to your profile’s bio, then go to the directory’s website, click on the menu > Directory, click “Add Account”, and follow the instructions from there.
You may also want to add more relevant hashtags to your bio first to improve discoverability.
The excellent @dansup (creator of @pixelfed) also maintains two very useful Fediverse tools:
➡️ https://fedidb.org - A dashboard for the Fediverse, with details of how server types and specific servers are growing.
➡️ https://fediverse.info/explore/people - An opt-in directory of people on the Fediverse sorted by keyword. You can add yourself to the directory by including special hashtags in your profile.
If you've used them before, take another look as they've both just been revamped.

Dan, can you think of a reason for a profile to cause a server error?
I've successfully added my Pixelfed account, but when I try my Calckey I get errors.
I have added the #fedi22
It happens for both the url and web finger.
My Pixelfed is identical except for the @ instance. ( @ riversidebryan @ pixelfed.social ) w/o spaces . The directory accepted it on the first try.
My Calckey web finger is (spaces added for visibility):

We should mention that the People Directory requires self-submission by adding the #fedi22 hashtag to your bio.
As easy as it is to join, if you want to remove your listing, simply remove #fedi22 from your bio and either wait for our crawler to remove it or you'll be able to immediately remove it when we ship this redesign!
An opt-in search engine for topics and people. If you're looking for a fresh new way to discover the Fediverse, this is the place.
Made by @dansup, an API is being developed so that different Fediverse server software such as Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Calckey can utilize it for social discovery and recommendations.
There are quite a few tools that help you find interesting accounts to follow. I wrote about how the space has evolved, and these tools have build upon each other. Here's an overview of some of them:
https://fedifollows.fedified.com/ by @DataDrivenMD A curated list with the accounts separated by ~20 topics. Allows 1-click follow, and prioritizes accounts by activity. A good option for new users that want to get started.
The directory on https://fediverse.info/explore/people allows everyone to sign up by adding hashtags to their profile, and using the #fedi22 tag to opt-in. Great to use if you are looking for a specific topic.
https://truesciphi.org/ is a curated list dedicated to science, philosophy and mathematics. These are fairly large lists, and great if you want to find scientists in specific fields.
It's an opt-in directory of fediverse accounts based on bio hashtags, to join simply add the #fedi22 tag to your bio and follow the directions on the directory page.
I'm also building an API so @pixelfed and other projects can build discovery/profile recommendations.
As you migrate to #Mastodon from #Twitter, it’s helpful to understand that while the #Fediverse is decentralized, there are ways to discover other people with your interests, and (just as importantly) help them discover you.
Adding “#fedi22” to your bio and registering your profile at https://fediverse.info/explore/people puts your profile in a directory to facilitate discovery based on shared interests.
