A while ago, while out on a walk around the neighborhood we spotted these two Merlins flying around their tree and calling to each other. We had been hearing them regularly for several weeks but up until then had not been able to pinpoint where they were.

Extirpated from the United States by the late 1970s, peregrines were reintroduced via careful breeding programs successfully enough that they were removed from the endangered species list 25 years ago.

The male (first pic) is laser-focussed on the female (second pic), who is just off to the side behind some bushes. Pretty sure there was some mating between these two pics being taken, and we didn't see the female until afterward.
They're not great photos, for all kinds of reasons. But I was stoked to see them.
Saw this #falcon chillin on a fence in my neighborhood. Not uncommon, the neighborhood is named for falcons, and half the main streets have falcon in their name. Still cool to see one relaxed and up close. #Nature#Birds
