A friend just sent me this.

nanoelquant,

@jabberati @debacle #conversations should support it. It requires #openkeychain to manage keys, but in general claims the support. I haven't tried it, thought, but am about to.

This is basically the problem that the decisions in crypto methods are influenced more by theoretical scenarios than practical workflows...

And so, as part of my #selfhosting exercises, I've now hosted my own #XMPP server node. #Prosody is now running at https://kchat.port0.org/

(sorry, no open registrations)

Super easy to do, especially with #certbot, and now i've got one more service under my bag :)

I wonder what I should host next? IRCd? I2P website?

Hosting is fun again!

Also note that it's super basic in terms of XEP compliance, just about 50% of the 20 recommended by the #Conversations dev:

Maybe I'll add some new modules later :)

What is your favourite app? Would be interested if I can discover a few new cool apps, I missed until now. Thank you already for sharing! @fdroid

I see a lot of posts here about why the other social media platforms are terrible & is the one to rule them all*.

Personally, Mastodon is my favorite & I prefer the with decentralized servers & open source standards.

But I also don’t mind coexisting with the others. Rather, I think it’s a good thing. All of us should settle in where we feel comfortable & find community.

  • Overstatement, but a Tolkien reference always seems appropriate.

Well allows encrypted and unencrypted rooms - your choice. And to be fair so did XMPP before messed it up.

still allows rooms to be encrypted with if I remember - and there are some clients that allow

and both allow encrypted rooms in XMPP. Matrix just makes it easier.

Even had but not many people used it. Encrypted chat rooms are very old.

Nette Funktion: Der Messenger (6.24.4) unterstützt nun diverse Text-Formatierungen wie fett, kursiv, durchgestrichen oder Code in Monospace.

ecosurrealism,

@ilyess that means that it is not open source. how come you believe some software which is dependent on a server which is not open source.. to be open source? i dont understand you.. sorry. end of discussion. btw use #xmpp #conversations :is_this:

ecosurrealism,

@ilyess that means that it is not open source. how come you believe some software which is dependent on a server which is not open source.. and a code that doesn't have reproducible builds.. an unsuable code.. how do you define open source then? i dont understand you.. sorry. btw use #xmpp #conversations :is_this:

Recommendations, please, for making an audio/video call work between:

  • a user on iOS and a user on Android

  • a user on iOS and a user on Linux

Messaging works fine, as does a/v between Linux and Android, but I have yet to find a combination which works for audio / video with an iOS device in the mix.

(Server is ejabberd.)

@neil if you self host (or not), works quite well, which is based on IM on and on . On GNU/Linux, is working, otherwise and should work (web clients). I believe they all work between themselves (for one2one calls).

Be sure to have an XMPP server with STUN/TURN activated (it's precious to cross NAT/Firewalls).

For the record, I'm implementing A/V calls in too, thanks to an grant.
