"Scientists have not yet established a direct climate change link with this particular storm."
20 years ago, scientists predicted bigger, wetter, more extreme storms. Now we're getting bigger, wetter, more extreme storms. The only thing that benefits from this pusillanimous "journalism" is fossil fuel companies. And this is from "Inside Climate News"! It's not like it's CNN or something.
Inadvertently picked this up, inserted into a broadly left and environmentalist publication at our wholefood co-op.
Extraordinary level of #conspiracy theory #misinformation.
I'm in Manchester but this obviously emanates from East Anglia. #15MinuteNeighbourhoods#ClimateDenialism
The purpose of this #scorecard is to assess the policies of five major #platforms that should aim to reduce the spread of climate mis- and disinformation. "
Twitter received its only point in the report for [having] an easily accessible and readable #PrivacyPolicy." #Privacy is important because fossil fuel companies, like other advertisers, can use personal data to sway public opinion.
Two billionaire Texas brothers whose fortunes derive from oil and gas fracking have pumped millions of dollars into rightwing media outfits that have promoted climate-crisis denialism and sent more big checks to back an array of evangelical projects and conservative Texas politicians.
The fracking billionaires Farris and Dan Wilks have each doled out millions of dollars through separate foundations over the last decade to a number of high-profile conservative and religious groups including the Heritage Foundation, Family Research Council and Focus on the Family.
“Thanks to their incredible wealth and largesse, the country as well as the [Republican] party are now feeling the effects of their aggressive brand of religiously-charged political activism,” said Darren Dochuk, a history professor at the University of Notre Dame and author of Anointed with Oil."

Will our own elites perform any better than the rulers of Chaco Canyon, the Mayan heartland, and Viking Greenland?
by Michael T. Klare, August 22, 2023
"The question today is: Will our own elites perform any better than the rulers of Chaco Canyon, the Mayan heartland, and Viking Greenland?
"As Diamond argues, each of those civilizations arose in a period of relatively benign climate conditions, when temperatures were moderate and food and water supplies adequate. In each case, however, the climate shifted wrenchingly, bringing persistent drought or, in Greenland’s case, much colder temperatures. Although no contemporary written records remain to tell us how the ruling elites responded, the archaeological evidence suggests that they persisted in their traditional ways until disintegration became unavoidable."
"As early as the 1970s, #Exxon’s scientists predicted that the firm’s #fossilfuel products could lead to #globalwarming with “dramatic #environmental effects before the year #2050.” Yet, as has been well documented, Exxon officials responded by investing company funds in casting doubt on climate change research, even financing think tanks focused on #ClimateDenialism. Had they instead broadcast their scientists’ findings and worked to speed the transition to alternative fuels, the world would be in a far less precarious position today."
all too familiar 😩
"Far-right outsider takes shock lead in Argentinian primary elections - Javier Milei, an admirer of Donald Trump, thinks the climate crisis is a lie and wants sale of human organs to be legalised
"The far-right populist Javier Milei rocked Argentina’s political establishment on Sunday by emerging as the leader in primary elections to choose presidential candidates for the October general election.
Milei, an admirer of the former US president Donald Trump, says Argentina’s central bank should be abolished, thinks the climate crisis is a lie, characterises sex education as a ploy to destroy the family, believes the sale of human organs should be legal and wants to make it easier to own handguns.
Votes were still being counted late on Sunday but analysts agreed that the upstart candidate, who gained notoriety – and a rockstar-like following – by angrily ranting against the “political caste”, did much better than expected and is a real contender for the presidency.
With about 92% of polling locations reporting, Milei had about 30% of the total vote, according to official results. The candidates in the main opposition coalition, United for Change, were at 28% and the current governing coalition, Union for the Homeland, had 27%."
“#ClimateDenialism gets more absurd every day. Fossil fuel companies have long had a financial interest in downplaying climate change, but the companies who have to insure against climate catastrophes are under no illusions because the crisis is hitting them right in the wallet”
the circus that currently performs in finnish government is getting so out of hands that im just waiting for the day it just implodes in on it self like couple billionaires in a submarine.
The nazi-joke-goverment has started to undermine the work Sanna Marin and her government made for climate action on municipal level. Opposition parties and municipal officials are baffled by this, as the savings achieved are minimal and the law had only put into operation and was really popular.
For decades climate folk warned a hotter planet meant longer dry seasons -> larger fires -> WAY more smoke. Once the world finally literally caught fire, best the world's "Conservatives" could do was posit easily disprovable conspiracy theories rather than taking responsibility🧵
I suppose we should be grateful Canada's #NeoDenialists like #WBrettWilson have (at least for now) skipped over the part where #JewishSpaceLasers are to blame for wildfires but make no mistake: this is the quality and calibre of the new #ClimateDenialism in 2023.
