Let's talk briefly about what a tire-fire #Wyze is and why you shouldn't buy from them.
I attempted to order COVID tests from them near the start of the pandemic. They sold more than they had, I never received the tests I ordered, and cancelling the order was a nightmare.
But then they started spamming me.
In 2022 I unsubscribed from their #spam.

In February 2024 I asked them to delete my #Wyze account (created only to order the COVID tests).
They just spammed me again.
When I click the unsub link, the page it takes me to claims I'm already unsubscribed.
In addition to all this you're probably aware they've had numerous security and privacy issues with their products.
You really, really shouldn't patronize this company. #spam#privacy#security
Wyze shows customer cameras to the wrong users—again. Imagine if you used these cameras inside, in private, intimate spaces like a bedroom or as a baby cam. This is the third time in three years they’ve had a similar issue; I don’t think I would ever trust Wyze for cameras or anything security related.
They clearly don’t know what they’re doing and do not architect things in a security or privacy conscious way.
Consumer software, LOL. They are blaming a "third-party caching library", but really this is (as always) failure to catch a corner case somewhere in their code. #Wyze#leak#cybersecurity#privacy
Around 13,000 Wyze customers were able to see inside other people's homes during what the smart home camera company is calling an outage from third-party web services. Thousands of people had access to thumbnails of strangers homes and around 1,500 could view full-sized stills or recorded events.
Sigh, might be uninstalling those Wyze cameras if they add facial recognition (yes, yes, aware of the security holes). They're sending out a survey about "features people want in Facial Recognition" (without any option of "no, don't want you collecting my biometrics, thank you") #Wyze#Privacy#cybersecurity
Reminder - I created https://github.com/unixorn/internet-of-trash as a list of things that don't work well, have had the vendor try to force you to use the cloud for something that was locally controlled, or are otherwise a pain to use with home automation.
If something is supposedly for #SmartHome but is a pain to use with home automation, please add it to the list.
The goal is to have a warning list of products to avoid, especially for people new to #HomeAutomation or #HomeAssistant .
@unixorn@homeassistant While not as flagrant as the others, I think I'd put #wyze on this list. They force you into cloud-connected use. They have SD cards & RTSP firmware for their cameras, but the former still requires the app (and connection to their services) & the latter is just the least possible functionality. A properly built public API would fix much of their software-side issues.
Hardware-side is a different story as I think their products are lackluster…
Wyze actually had the audacity to reach out to me to promote their products on my Tiktok and twitch. Yeah that’s gonna be a huge “HELL NO” with the way y’all responded to security issues. Having security problems isn’t the main issue it’s how y’all handled it.
There’s a reason I rarely let companies pay for promotion with me. I only will accept things I actually believe in. I don’t believe in Wyze for security. #Wyze#Cybersecurity#infosec
