I played with both of my snails the other evening, the first time really since Chibi has gotten significantly larger than Niles. As a tiny snail Chibi would get really excited to see big snail Niles (or any other snail!) and zoom over to piggyback on them. Once atop their shell she would reposition to face front and happily look all around as the other snail went about its way. Then dismount as she pleased…. Niles bore this grudgingly as he does hold affection for his snibling (snail sibling), but would sometimes mimic this behavior in obvious annoyance. This time however, Chibi was large enough he could crawl atop her and wiggle his eyestalks in her face tauntingly, then crawl off in a huff in search of more appy slices. Chibi however was just happy to play her favorite game with her sleepyhead snibling (snail sibling.) 🐌🍎

@thecalchemist how the heck do #snails survive and not get wiped out in cold climates during the winter?

Snails of Tokyo museum, two dextral, two sinistral. I'm in Japan to find sites where they are sympatric - perhaps the artist the artist found one already, or else, payed no attention at all to chirality

Niles slept through the heat wave so “the little one” had a chance to grow even bigger than him. He was a little shy at first but came around once he had his fill of sprouts and did a spot of grooming.

For the first time in a while, my morning dog walk took me past the Glasgow Penguins and their neighbours, the Snails on the Rails. Nice to see they're still there.

Today was #tankday, I had to completely replace the soil with coco coir because the flies were totally out of hand. The little ones seem to like it alright at least. Unfortunately both #pillbugs got a bit stressed by the cleaning, probably since I usually just let them chill in the substrate? #snail #snails #snailposting #snailphotography #snailsofmastodon #terrarium #pets #petsofmastodon #snailcare #mosstodon #fairygarden

A lot of grapevine #snails

It rained the whole night and there are snails everywhere.

I've never seen so many of them and I have to watch my steps.

When I grew up in Southeast Asia, my first experience with snails involved seeing the Lissachatina Fulica, the giant African land snail. As the name suggests, the species was not native to the area, but an invasive species from East Africa. For most of my childhood, this gigantic snail was what “snails” looked like in my mind, because they were the only ones I encountered.

This was me trying to find new and interesting things to photograph. It was in pretty harsh sunlight and with slight tweaks I think I got it where it was noticeable but not overbearing. @big_head_ceramics on instagram made this. #studioceramics #handbuiltceramics #ceramicsculpture #ceramicsofinstagram #ceramicsculptures #ceramiclife #ceramicist #sgraffito #sgraffitopottery #artforfun #ceramics #glassart #snails #skulls #glazing #handmade #art #2023photochallenge

Did you know snails can have hair?? I didn't.

ID'd for me on as Trochulus hispidus, the hairy snail. Taken a while back but I think I forgot to post it.
