🤦🏼♀️ 200 formally beloved actors signed a letter calling the #Oscars#antisemitic for the acceptance speech of a #Jewish filmmaker who made a film about the #Holocaust. We are living in the upside down where antisemitic now is used as “please don’t talk to me about reality.”
The fact that ANY non-white straight male story gets even made is nothing short of a miracle in that ecosystem. (and then to put marketing $$ behind AND campaigned - oh boy)
And hollywood is going to get even more risk averse.
In short, Please shout of loud from the rooftops about movies you love. Stories centering women, PoC, Queers, mixing genres and tones and themes, critiquing the empires - celebrate them like the miracles they are. They almost never get made.
And important note, because such movies usually don't get financial confidence, you can't expect them to "find you" like the way blockbusters do i.e. there is no marketing budgets
So you can't just watch the movies that find you and feel dissatisfied.
You got to FIND THE movies. Meet them in middle. Follow film festival reviews, project announcements. If you wait for trailer on sunday tv or billboards.......self fulfilling prophecy.
"Glazer's international platform (19.5 million people watched live) and his universalist sentiments posed a severe difficulty for the Zionist right wing. Glazer was saying that the Holocaust was an event in human history, not solely in Jewish history, and that its lesson is that dehumanization leads to atrocities and even genocide"
Prof Juan Cole
And here also is Jonathan Cook on Jonathan Glazer's Oscars acceptance speech:
"There could not be pithier summary of the difference between the universal moral impulse found in Jews like Glazer, and the particularist Zionist impulse found in the people who noisily claim to speak for the Jewish community – and are readily given a bullhorn to do so by western establishments"
When a Jewish man protests your hijacking his Jewishness & the Holocaust to justify your occupation, & your response is to (loudly, repeatedly & falsely) tell everyone that what he has actually done is renounced his Jewishness, guess what?
You are hijacking his Jewishness to suit your occupation.
Help a dude out here, please. I'm watching the "red carpet" part of the Oscars, but there is ZERO mention of the designers of all those wonderful dresses! Who are they wearing?
OK then, Vanity Fair and fashionista.com had great coverage of what designers were worn by the red carpet crew at the #Oscars.
Hard to pick a favourite, but I loved Leah Lewis' outfit (in Lever Couture) and Liza Koshy in that beautiful Marchesa. Carey Mulligan rocked a timeless Balenciaga, and I guess Zendaya would be stunning in anything (Armani).
Grace Gummer certainly made an impression too (also Armani), as did Eugene Lee Yang (404: designer not found).

It was the most watchable Oscars in years where Brits and Godzilla triumphed – but Louis Vuitton zippers and a certain ex-president didn’t
