What's more luggable than the original, easier to explain to the TSA, and as cute as a button? Yep, it's these 1:6 scale Osborne One miniatures that just landed in my shop! 🎉 Back in the day I spent a fair amount of time on a full size O1 figuring out how to load and unload data from floppies and though I don't miss the tiny screen I do kind of miss the springy coiled cable.

15 printed parts, a bit of 1mm nylon line, and a short length of filament is, along with labor and CA glue, what it takes to make a tiny Osborne One. Barring interruptions, they'll be in the shop later today.

Ok, this little friend is the first of my newly designed 1:6 scale Osborne 1. The new printer is making parts and I'll post here on Mastodon when the first five land in the shop.
edit: they're now in the store! https://transmutable.gumroad.com/l/mo1

Success on the 1:6 scale coiled cable! I can wind thin nylon line around a length of printer filament and then run a thin drip of CA glue to lock it in place. The results doesn't lengthen and spring back but it looks remarkably like the orignal. The CA glue soaks below the surface of the nylon so it isn't visible. In this test I used a light filament to see how much shows through. If it was the same color as the line I think it would not be noticed without magnification.

The micrOsborne 1 design is coming along nicely. I'm still not sure what to do about an electronic display, though. One of my LCD suppliers has a panel the correct size that's used in VR rigs. It has a very high resolution but also would be tricky to integrate and is quite expensive.

Here's some hard truth about C - It's not going away. It's not that it's perfect, but it is immensely portable and useful. More importantly, no other language has come close to its ubiquity. I'm not saying other languages don't do some things better (they definitely do!), but we're going to be stuck with C for a while yet.

It’s time the politicians opposed to our well-being stopped condemning Just Stop Oil protests. https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2023/07/09/its-time-the-politicians-opposed-to-our-well-being-stopped-condemning-just-stop-oil-protests/. Just Stop Oil are following in a wholly appropriate tradition of protest which was the only thing that delivered almost every social change from which we now benefit.

Newest member of the family is an .
Sadly it's a white-screener and its keyboard cable is missing.
Will see what I can do about that cable and according to Miss Google the white screen is a duff PLA chip.

@RetroWizzard … That time, where floppy disks were big and screens were small ;-) I liked the 1 once.
