Negative User Experience on "Chat with us".

Previously had hours wasted by Optus chat workers.
Not going down that path again.

Start chat.

Put in details and specific request.

Optus tells me a operator is reviewing my message to get an understanding of what I'm wanting.

Operator comes on line, asks for details.

I say "Already entered".

Operator posts that they're reviewing my message to get an understanding of what I'm wanting.

And ... it took #Optus over 80 minutes to have a human operator engage in the "Message Us " chat support this morning.

The #ComplaintResolution person says they're very busy.
But I can with another complaint person!

Not #Optus being stupid again. Can’t ring anyone as calls don’t go through.

Way to go Optus. Is this another “upgrade”?

Der massive Internetausfall in Australien geht laut dem Provider auf eine unerwartete Abschaltung von Cisco-Routern zurück. Darauf war man nicht vorbereitet.

I think my favourite thing about the #optus shitshow is how all the other telcos laughed at them, and then the government stepped in and tossed the industry into the under the micromanaged bus.

The other telcos must be giving Optus punches and wedges in the locker room for that.

Friday, #Optus goes AWOL for the better part of the day. Today, #ports in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle have an attack of the cybers. It’ll look like carelessness if something else happens next week.

#optus releasing 200G of free data for users, including prepaid users getting free data on weekends after the #optusoutage..

Would that excess volume cause more outages?

Does anyone working in PR or media training care to break down Optus CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin's interview?

The ABC reporter was asking the right questions, however to be fair the prep she was given wasn't bad either. The delivery could've been better especially the tone of voice, but the words (deflection) seemed okay to me.

(Is it okay to ask for boost? I don't think any journalist follows me 🤣)

Optus has executed another spectacular failure - they have been allowed to get away with the data breach last year.
This time they say ‘they don’t know what has caused this major outage’ - I say that complete and utter bullshit - they know but are lying about.
I wonder if the govt is going to let them off the hook on this one too.
My data was stollen and Optus was very arrogant with me about it.
They’re in the same basket as Qantas

"It has left hospitals unable to be contacted, as well as call centres and payment services that rely on mobile or internet coverage to process sales."

Just recently, I've had to dial an emergency number because someone needed help fast. I refuse to imagine what would have happened if I had been an #Optus customer.

This deserves a thorough investigation. Screw the CEO's weak apologies and free data!

#Optus offering 200GB to people affected by the outage should be a clear indicator of how cheap it is for telcos to provide data these days.

shermozle, to random
@shermozle@aus.social avatar

I see this meme going around but if you're a direct #Optus customer you're really not getting a deal. If you're on postpaid you're getting screwed by either carrier. Prepaid is where the competition is these days.

Pretty much all plans from both carriers include unlimited national calls and SMS so it's just how much data.

If you don't need more than about 10 gigs/month, there's many options. Optus and Telstra both have prepay plans for $35 per 28 days. 15 gigs on Telstra, 20 gigs on Optus.

The real bargain at the moment is Boost (Telstra owned, uses all their network) on the 12 month expiry. 170GB for $230. There's been a bunch of deals for that even cheaper including a recent $178 deal for that. So ~$10/month for all the data and calls you really need.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/810414

The catch on all these plans is you get a limited number of international SMSes so if you talk to overseas people that way, it'll suck.

The real bargains that make Optus worth considering are when you go with their MVNOs:

  • Flip has a $9.90 3GB/month SIM! If your data needs are modest, that's quite good.
  • Lebara's "Small" plan is $12/month for 25 gigs, with the bonus of a heap of international calls. (unclear if this price is only the first month though)

But you'll be on Optus' network... At my house you get zero bars. But my kids are on those super cheap plans so we can get them when they're out and about.

Here's my spreadsheet where I've broken those out. It's by no means comprehensive. Finder used to do this well but they seem to have dropped anyone who doesn't give them a kickback for referrals. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ks54GpJHaify0NZmCw34F1ZZkV3O0BgfXhx6Rhrjmpo/edit?usp=sharing

I'm sure #Optus communicated excellently, it's just Optus customers couldn't access their communications.
