#NYC's corrupt mayor (redundant phrase) had the #NYPD attack/assault Columbia students protesting #Gaza genocide after a private call with several pro-#Israel billionaires who promised political donations for his reelection campaign. Such a succinct example of how the sequestration of capital, political power, and violence within a tiny elite is the norm in this country.
Unleash the litigation gates! These universities calling the police on their students will be in litigation for years. And those costs don't include the $ NYC is bleeding paying for these cops.:
AFTER RAIDS, NYPD DENIED STUDENT PROTESTERS WATER AND FOOD IN JAIL
STUDENTS ARRESTED DURING the police crackdown on protests at universities in New York City last week were denied water and food for 16 hours, according to two faculty members at Columbia University’s Barnard College who collected reports from students who were inside.
Other students reported that they were beaten by New York City Police Department officers after their arrests and taken to the hospital for injuries before being returned to central booking. Photos of the injuries were provided to The Intercept.
"The NYPD’s New Sizzle Reels Aren’t Just Dumb. They’re Dangerous"
This is police propaganda "to justify crackdowns..on dissent while allowing police to portray themselves as heroic."
NYC Mayor Eric Adams repeatedly referred to "professional outside agitators", as police pointed to protestors' supplies: "We got water..supplies..cups..this is very, very organized... There is definitely a mastermind behind this.”
An anti-Israel student group at #Columbia Law School sent a threatening email on Friday telling #Jewish students that they will be neither "safe" nor "free" until "everyone is safe" and "Palestine is free."
The National Lawyers Guild chapter that defended #Hamas#Oct7 attack, put out a statement condemning school for calling in #NYPD to clear out occupied building.
The statement told #Jews that they are not safe & accused Jewish students who oppose divestment of threatening everyone's safety.
While this report by @guardian could be improved by refraining from describing deputized, state-sanctioned violence as "anarchy" and playing into the statist "anarchy = violent chaos" trope, this is otherwise good reporting which you won't find anywhere in the NYT these days.
