I've read that #WhatsApp wants to interoperate with other #messenger applications, to align with #DigitalMarketsAct. My problem with their #UX approach is that it's only planned as a third-party tab, with no promise of a setting that would place all the chats on the single page.
I realize they have security reservations, but I smell a dark pattern here: only do I message my people on WhatsApp from Matrix, they'd have to change tabs, making a chat with me stick like a sore thumb - or not stick at all.
Hot bottom-line: hiding behind a tab is no different than cutting off #interoperability altogether. Multi-messenger chats should become a first-party feature in synchronous software, to comply with #DMA. Targeted apps that don't care about such regulation have no future.
@cwtch is by far my most favorite #secure#messenger. it's #serverless, and end to end encryption (#e2ee) is built in with #tor onion services. no setting up any infrastructure required, it's built on the back of the distributed @torproject operator network. no phone number is necessary, and you can have isolated IDs (profiles) for everyone you talk to
Is it possible to text with other people using different messengers? You can use iOS iMessage with SMS and iMessage. But here I’m looking for communicating with a friend like this: he would use Signal and I stick with iMessage?
Reason: I don’t own a smartphone, my iPad has no SIM card, so Signal isn’t possible on my side. We already agreed on not using WhatsApp. Any other suggestions for iOS?

Dommage que le chiffrement ne s'applique pas aux conversations existantes. Une nouvelle conversation "secrète" est créée en doublon. Et ça ne semble pas dispo pour tous les groupes, peut-être seulement avec ceux qui ont configuré leur clé…
En tout cas, quitte à utiliser #Messenger, autant faire en sorte que chaque nouvelle discussion soit chiffrée désormais.

The last I’ll say on Beeper/Apple/iMessage debacle:
I think it’s within Beeper’s right to attempt at reverse engineering iMessage, but not Apple’s responsibility to be forced or even expected to host Beeper customers. It’s clear Apple doesn’t want to and I don’t blame them. If this ever went to court, Apple would obliterate Beeper—even if they switched lawyers. It’s not Beeper’s right to push the burden and expense of hosting on Apple.
@snazzyq considering how basically every standardization group - regardless if #ETSI or #GSMA - introduce #Govware#Backdoors in their #Encryption, I'd not count on any GSMA standard to come out of this.
Their attempt to replace #MMS witha #Messenger (remember #Joyn) failed so hard that I don't have any devices that support it!
Also #ChromeOS supports #Android-Apps and if you don't have administrative privilegues on a machine then consider it insecure and nit trustworthy for yourself as a user!
This is irrelevant too. Browsers have really good sandboxing nowadays, and on chromium you can even create multiple profiles within the UI. The reality is that, as long as the client-side code can be trusted (reminder that you can self-host element and/or cinny if you don't trust it - I've done that before) as well as the browser itself, it's about the same in terms of security.
