Did nobody tell these folks that #OpenStreetMap.org and its Foundation already exist? Guess it's been too resistant to corporate capture?
"The Overture Maps Foundation, as the new effort is called, is officially hosted by the Linux Foundation, but the program is driven by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Facebook’s parent company Meta, Microsoft and Dutch mapping company TomTom."
"'"[…] You might have quickly noticed that only two percent of the expenses are allocated to #Linux#kernel support. Although this percentage appears modest, it translates to a substantial figure of $7,804 million [e.g. a bit short of 8 million $], representing a significant investment in kernel development. […]"'"
Advocating for #Wasmcloud to adopt a OSS-first approach and use #LinuxFoundation#OpenBAO as their example of a secret store integration in upcoming RFC implementation..
@linuxfoundation projects are already seen as overly corporate, and sticking as much as possible to at least #OSS and preferably even #FOSS in docs + elaborated examples would help to not further reinforce that notion.
Today more companies are announcing their support of the Valkey community (the group that includes committed developers previously working on the OSS version of the core Redis engine): Aiven, Alibaba Cloud, Chainguard, Heroku, Huawei, Percona, and Verizon.
The Valkey community is announcing their first source code release: version 7.2.5. Now available for download from GitHub and usable via the project's official Docker image.
Hey Internet. Does anybody know if any of the open source nonprofit foundations a member of the Apple Developer Program? I'd love to sign the #fwupd package for macOS, but don't want to spend $99 every year for the privilege.
