Leader of the #OpenPrinting project since it was founded in 2001, introduced the CUPS printing system in Mandrake Linux in 2000 working at MandrakeSoft and with this and a lot of evangelism (booths, talks, tutorials) made the other distros also switch to CUPS, since 2006 printing maintainer at Canonical, co-organizing annual meetings with the Printer Working Group (PWG), since 2008 every year mentoring in Google Summer of Code, doing everything to make printing on Linux and similar "just work".

@killyourfm probably the attack you are suffering is the one talked about here:

https://techcrunch.com/2024/02/21/discord-took-no-action-against-server-that-coordinated-costly-mastodon-spam-attacks/

This shows the vulnerability of the Fediverse, which seems not to be a bug but a design flaw.

23 years ago today I took this selfie of me and the wife on a ski lift. Never been skiing since 👍

Photo taken with a Sony Cybershot camera which had a funky flip-over lens. My first digital camera.

till,
@till@ubuntu.social avatar

@popey My first digital camera was also 23 years ago!, mid-2001, so exactly 22.5 years. It was an Olympus C3000Z (3 MPix, 32-96 mm eq.).

I bought it because I was running an booth on the LinuxTag for the first time, got lended a bunch of nice photo printers from Epson and also from HP and wanted to be able to demo them.

I also printed a photo taken with it in A1 size (using Mandrake Linux) from this camera for the LinuxTag, view from the Eiffel Tower ...

@popey your camera is REALLY ancient, from 1996, Sony's very first consumer digital camera, whopping 0.3 MPix!! Prime lens, sorry, no zoom ...

https://www.cameralabs.com/sony-dsc-f1-review/

So it was already 5 years on the market when you took that image ...

... and too old for https://www.dpreview.com/ (thanks Gear Patrol for buying my favorite camera site from Amazon who gave up on it), no mention of this model there at all.

Earlier I told here already that the Open Source Summit Europe will take place on Sep 16-18, 2024 in Vienna, Austria.

Vienna is a nice place to travel to, so having only a 3-day conference there is a little sad ...

... but it got solved! On Sep 18-20, 2024 there will be the Linux Plumbers Conference, same week, same venue, and so you will enjoy a full work week (Mon-Fri) in this beautiful city!

So let's go plumbing in Vienna!!

I will be there, too ...

Now that we're all back and recovering from FOSDEM, we'd love to know two things: what were your favorite talks, and just as importantly, what were your favorite moments in between the talks? 🤔

(And no, those talks and moments don't have to be Thunderbird related! This is not a shameless ploy for attention, we promise. We'll be MUCH more obvious about those! 😜 💙 )

This was great, the @linuxlads podcast produced live with audience interaction on the . Now it finally got published as the actual podcast.

And I have contributed to it. First, around 20 min into it I give an example how meeting on conferences causes actions and tell why the Linux App Summit 2024 will take place in Monterrey, Mexico, and near the end I give an example how conference attendees come well equipped for winter weather.
