As a young fella just getting into #jazz in the late eighties my first impressions of David Sanborn were that he was corny and overly smooth, in an unhip bag I didn't dig with guys like Metheny and the Breckers. Then he blew my fucking mind with the Night Music show and I've respected him ever since. There was almost no really cool weird music on TV in 1988-90 except that show, and man, Night #Music was legit!!! Nick Cave, Bongwater, Pere Ubu, Miles Davis...
Pretty gutted by the Sanborn news, may he rest in peace. I love smooth jazz, I also love old Night Music clips. Such a good decision to make Sanborn and Jools Holland musical directors of a national TV program. #music#davidsanborn#jazz
Episodes of the show he hosted from 1988-1990, Sunday Night (later named Michelob Presents Night Music), are available on YouTube. I highly suggest checking those out, along with his vast discography.
I love the blues and jazz ,but I'm too poor to pay for those concerts, Y'all are very fortunate,I tried to see some of my favorites, just can't go out and pay 600 to 700 dollar ticket to pay,I'm good I'll catch it on video #jazz#blues#music
Saturday is another episode of my #radio show, #Jazz Roulette, on #KUZU 92.9 FM in #Denton TX at 5:00 PM CDT (22:00 UTC). You can stream live at https://kuzu.fm
Below are some of the records I’m taking to the studio
I dragged my feet getting this reissue, but I'm glad I found a copy. Really tremendous record and a fantastic pressing. Significant Herbie Hancock presence on this recording
if you had told me there was a woman trying to make harps happen with #hiphop flavored #jazz in this 21st century i would have given you the side-eye; yet here i am listening to a piece by Alina Bzhezhinska, and her Hip Harp Collective and am pleasantly surprised.
If you're in Lancaster, but are not heading up to HighestPoint tonight, then you could do a lot worse than joining #ProfDJ for some jazz-fusion grooves tonight, at Runner Duck Wine Room (King's St. Lancaster).
You can enjoy that sweet spot between soul and funk and jazz alongside some lovingly curated wine, and a great atmosphere.
Hope that NYC's Emergency Group picks up more press on their short tour — caught them on Sunday and it's just totally exciting and venturesome work. Not smart enough to articulate what's happening exactly — see liners by @bourgwick for that — but we picked up wafts of the usual suspects (Miles' Big Fun, Get Up with It comps, specifically) but there are definitely post-punk undercurrents too? Anyways, it's great https://chicagoreader.com/music/concert-preview/emergency-group-sleeping-village/#music#jazz#jams#emergencygroup#nyc
