Hang up your hang ups. 2015 AAA pressing on Speakers Corner of this 1975 Japanese-only LP (released in the US and EU in 2014-15). You like Headhunters? You like the Hancock funk? You'll like this. #vinyl#HerbieHancock#HeadHunters@vinylrecords
I dragged my feet getting this reissue, but I'm glad I found a copy. Really tremendous record and a fantastic pressing. Significant Herbie Hancock presence on this recording
Yet another true classic from Shorter. This 1964 release featuring Shorter, Ron Carter (bass), Elvin Jones (drums), Herbie Hancock (piano), and Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), has them playing a great set of Shorter originals.
One of the best albums of the period, I think, given a spiffy reissue by Blue Note.
#GreatAlbums1960s - #HerbieHancock – Empyrean Isles (1964). Hancock is in able company on this rousing set of hard and post-bop workouts, featuring Freddie Hubbard on blistering cornet, and the Miles Davis rhythm section, Ron Carter and Tony Williams, on bass and drums. “One Finger Snap” opens the set with some hot soloing from all concerned, after which “Oliloqui Valley” sets a mellower pace (a la Maiden Voyage). “Cantaloupe Island” gets you humming on the LP’s second side.
#GreatAlbums1960s - #HerbieHancock – Maiden Voyage (1965). Breezier and more subtle than the boogaloo hits (“Watermelon Man,” etc.) behind Hancock’s 60s stardom, Maiden Voyage evokes oceanic excursions, blustering storms, and dancing sea mammals on “Maiden Voyage,” “The Eye of the Hurricane” and “Dance of the Dolphins.” Hancock’s Miles Davis compatriots (Ron Carter, Tony Williams) support Freddie Hubbard’s trumpet and George Coleman’s sax solos with grooves relaxed as sea air.
Wayne Shorter: Zero Gravity - Official Trailer | Prime Video
"An intimate portrait and cinematic ode to jazz giant Wayne Shorter's life and music. Depicted in three parts, each representing a different period of Shorter's life and music."
A one off concert in tribute to the late, very great #jazz player and composer #WayneShorter, overseen by his friend and colleague #HerbieHancock. The show revolved around reconfigured lineups to cover the different eras and genres of Wayne, which included people like Cindy Blackman, Carlos Santana, Jack DeJohnette, Marcus Miller, Joni Mitchell, Esperanza Spalding, Kamasi Washington, Chris Potter, and more. A wild, varied cross-section of Shorter's influence at the #Hollywood Bowl #zeruchontour
From the debut album by jazz pianist #HerbieHancock released on Blue Note Records, and what a crack band Herbie pulled for this session - tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon, trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, bassist Butch Warren and drummer Billy Higgins.
In 1974, funk instrumentals like this played on Top 40 radio. Can you imagine that now? Ref. also #HerbieHancock's "Chameleon" that year. '74 was funky as you please!
The band are from #Scotland I learned just last year.
@mrcompletely I read #HerbieHancock's book, so I knew about the band. But I hadn't actually heard them. This was a great introduction. Visually and musically stunning. Thank you.
