after a lot of coding to build the foundations for UIs, i'm finally getting to building in map generation and gameplay for my macintosh system 6/SimEarth- inspired #wildfire simulation game
no biome generation yet, but i'm now able to display terrain tiles in a window
why build a game when you can build an operating system instead :P
Game Devlog 01 - Yesterday I restarted my #GameDevelopment project. I liked where things were headed before I took a break, but I think a reset will help me focus. Using #Notion, I’m writing out deliverables and tasks and I’m about 20% done preparing for development on the first minor version. It feels a little tedious and I may scale back in the future, but I want to see if the structure will help with this first minor version. #GodotEngine#IndieGameDev
Im currently working on trajectory systems and forgot what tan() does and I kinda am embarrassed about that. Also I'm awful at trigonometry apparently. Haven't thought about it in a couple decades!
I did not think that trophy management for PlayStation would be so difficult. Erra: Exordium in Steam has 39 achievements and there is no gradation.
For PlayStation I have to balance gradations and points: Bronze, Silver, Gold (15/30/90 points). Several times I deleted the last trophy so that I could change the gradation of the previous ones. Because if you go beyond the indicator 950 points, you have to use Platinum. In my case it is not possible
7 ans de travail. Voici donc Dixy, un jeu archi classique qui, à la base devait me servir à m'initier au game design, au pixel art, etc... J'en ai finalement fait un jeu ! ❤️
today i got decker working inside of Unreal so that i can show hypercard poems while you explore the world.
yay for having bitsy and hypercard in a big 3D game!
(the effect is beautiful because it really feels like you're experiencing the environment in different contexts)

[A short gameplay video showing you walking up the side of a cliff. There is some grass on the left side and a very steep cliff to the right. As you are walking the screen glitches and you see a hypercard interface pop up. You click through it as it illustrates the path up using black and white dithered images.](https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/094/277/431/824/322/original/5657082f81f2d229.mp4)
Well, the moment has finally arrived! I am super excited to announce that I am working on a brand new game!
For the past few months, I have been working on a demo for a full version of the Jam game "Hair of the Dog" which I created for the @AdvXConf
Jam in 2020! #indiegamedev
for years i've dreamt of having my own tile-based RPG engine that would make lo-fi win95/macOS 9 spiderweb software style games like Realmz or Exile or Avernum
after so much hand-wringing about being unsure about the feasibility of building one from the ground up (the ground in this case being the love2d framework), i started yesterday. a couple hours later i've got the beginnings of a 2d tile editor. scrolling tiles, random terrain generation, drag and drop all work.
this is something that took me months to mould AGS into doing using a bunch of hacks and various script modules. there is no doubt now that i was trying to build a house by swinging a screwdriver at nails.
there's this theme in game development i've heard over and over: "if you want to make a game, never ever build your own engine." i've even given people that advice over the years. and after 12+ years of doing this stuff, i realize that i gave some terrible advice.
i have a really bad habit of polishing a turd until it gleams like japanese fake food, so i've decided to launch my new game studio's web site before i'm happy with it:
as i promised in an earlier post, i am documenting every step of the process of building a new game studio, and a new game at the same time.
i'll post at least once a week on the journal, and expand the site with game development tutorials in the coming weeks. 😅
oh and - for you #WorldWideWeb nerds out there: the entire site is generated on-the-fly with handwritten shaitan-approved PHP from text files, using a vile markup language i invented on my own without asking an adult first. it also features an #rss feed on the journal page, for those of you who find browsing profane
I realized today that when I lost Twitter, I also lost a lot of the cool indie game devs I was following there (and the updates on their games). And that totally sucks, because I really love to play indie games. Apparently Twitter was my main source for discovering them (sheesh).
Below is a pretty big list of games (with links to them!) that I'm looking forward to. There are SO MANY games on my Steam wishlist that are still being worked on and upcoming (some of these are on itch also, and some have alphas, betas, and demos, I've noted which).
Some of these games are definitely coming later this year, and fingers crossed for maybe full releases of the rest in 2024?
(Point Game Dev) Musique évolutive part 2: Dans le monde de la jungle, le thème change aussi d'instrus selon si le perso se trouve dans l'eau ou sur terre. Je suis un content de cette guitare qui se transforme en piano, sous l'eau.
idk how anatomically correct it is but i did it!
i made my first still beating heart!
material is animated. it's nice & flexible too... like you can change the color and roughness of the flesh so the same texture can be used in other... fleshy cases.
yay for 3d horror elements!

[A video panning around a 3D heart. The heart is slightly beating and looks fleshy. It's very disturbing. There are veins all around it... It looks relatively anatomically correct. The video starts from inside the heart and than pans out, and circles around it.](https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/111/184/661/057/433/781/original/5885bcca89cfedcb.mp4)
thread of screenshots from my work yesterday. i finished the mountaintop graveyard where you talk to the spirit buried there! the ethereal entity will give you what you need on your journey. you can also explore the poems here, which give more context to the game and space that you are in... 1/5

Hey there, journalists / influencers! I'm about to release my point and click adventure Twilight Oracle on January 30th. If you wish to review it, please DM me! 😃 Twilight Oracle is fully voiced!
If you were a single person or a group of friends planning to make games (2d and 3d) that could be published to both #ItchIo and mobile app stores; what would you use, for what purposes and why?
Hey everyone! The 66th edition of the #GodotWildJam is over, and our game made it to rank 15 overall (out of 159 games). If you haven't yet, maybe give it a go? :)
