"A 61-year-old man is suing Macy’s and the parent company of Sunglass Hut over the stores’ alleged use of a facial recognition system that misidentified him as the culprit behind an armed robbery and led to his wrongful arrest. While in jail, he was beaten and raped, according to his suit."
Me and @charlieegan3 have been working on a new guide for the most common errors seen in #OPA during #Rego policy development. Parser errors, compiler errors and evaluation errors — it's all in there. Hopefully it'll be a useful resource to anyone trying to get a better understanding on why some errors happen, and how to fix them. Feedback always welcome!
Reality is a bitter pill when you’ve been fed a steady diet of religious fantasy. While life always was random, I felt safer when I could explain it as “God’s will” or “Satan’s handiwork.” I felt extremely exposed & vulnerable without my Cosmic Big Brother watching over me. Step by step, I learned to own my life. Divorcing religion is painful - but it’s also liberating. I love my life ♥️ #independence#criticalthinking#identity#reality#science#equality#reason#SecularHumanism#atheist#joy

Your right to #religiousFreedom doesn't allow you to steamroll the rights of your #children, and endanger their well-being. Your rights as a #parent don't allow you to obliterate your child's #identity. Maybe try putting the best interests of your child over your thirst for #religious#fanaticism.
This time, it's (get this...) my employer's Canadian subsidiary's group health plan's provider's banking partner's provider of file transfer services, #MOVEit.

How can you be yourself when you don't know who you really are? A story of isolation, adaptation, kindness, cruelty, trust and hope, and above all, how to piece together the truth (or at least pick out the lies) on a future, depopulated Earth.
Gender as Goodness of Fit: Transness, Trauma, and Translation
Hosted by Barnard Center for Research On Women
"In this excerpt from the conversation about their book Gender Without Identity, Avgi Saketopoulou and Ann Pellegrini discuss the idea of gender as goodness of fit and the ways that trauma plays a role in the development of all gender identities."
📚 Safiya Sinclair: How To Say Babylon is an escape through poetry - review
Sinclair says "I might have left Rastafari behind, but I always carried with me the indelible fire of its rebellion," which seeps through in her writing. Her prose is the thread she will pass down to the next generation, ensuring that it includes other Rastafari women.
Some time ago I read some of Joe Hill's horror #books. In one novel there was a trope of using "real" #names during summoning souls of deceased ones. Firstly main characters thought it should be names they were given at birth, but it didn't work. It worked when they used their chosen nicknames. And one of them said their legal names were bad past they escaped and chosen names represented they current selves and life they chose for themselves.
I like it very much and I feel this clearly.
And I liked when someone here mentioned "legal names" instead of "real names" while discussing some mainstream social media stupid policies. For me legal name is only dumb label, some identifier in offices to handle formal aspects of life. If I am not attached emotionally to my documents' numbers or debit card's number, why I should be attached to stupid word someone else chosen to call me and added to database?
I need some Polish phrase for "legal name" which would carry the same meaning.
Society can be understood as something that only exists as long as actions are performed, as long as processes take place, as long as we all contribute in some way to its ephemeral construction.
"Social organization is messy and refractory, a shambles rather than a crystal […]. There is no tidy atom and no clear-cut world, only complex striations and long strings that reptate as in a polymer goo" (White, H.C. (2008), Identity and control, Princeton, Princeton University Press, p. 18).
"Positing that the idea of an innate core gender identity is simplistic, problematic, and, even, potentially harmful to LGBTQ+ people, they instead argue that gender is something all subjects acquire. Trauma, they provocatively propose, sometimes has a share in that acquisition."
We all need to get straight that identity and sentience are two VERY different things.
#Identity is a distinctly mammalian social function. It is embedded in our corporeal every-day instinct for interdependence. Computers can't and won't ever have a sense of self.
#Sentience is impossible to define. It is the soul. It is the experience of being. You can't build it. You can't define it. You can't model it with math. Sentience is the loophole science can't close. Don't worry about it.
