Does #IPv6 have something like #UPnP? Since stateful firewalls are necessary for complimentary security but there should be a way for a client to ask the router for exceptions
In order to make it cheap, I chose an ARM machine with #IPv6 only, and it did throw me a few curve balls... but hey, it only costs €3.29/mo to run!
I wrote about it, mostly so that the next time I have to do it again I have it documented, but if it's helpful to someone else that would be awesome :)
Dear #Pythonistas, in the spirit of "it's always #DNS", are you aware of something that might break this?
On an #IPv4/v6 dual-stack client, you make a requests.Session.get() call. The target host name is a CNAME record that points to several round-robin A records but no AAAA records. The endpoints all listen on IPv4 only.
Have you come across any situation in which requests may be misbehaving in such a way that #IPv6-to-v4 fallback doesn't work, and the call would result in a ConnectionError?
If a device has a publicly routable IPv6 interface, safari won't offer that address for a peer to use in a WebRTC call. Unless one of 2 seemingly unrelated things are true
a) the page already has microphone permission or
b) the page specifies an IPv6 capable STUN server.
The whole point of IPv6 is that you don't need NAT to share scarce IPv4 addresses - and so STUN (which figures out what your public IP address is) would be irrelevant for IPv6
Hey #IPv6 crowd! I'd like to get an address for a name that I can then send #UDP datagrams to. I'd like to use the latest version of IP that is available. How do I do that? (I'll provide some AIU wrong answers in replies.)
I've successfully installed a #NAT64 server and a #DNS64 Bind9 server in my homelab.
I set the DHCP Option 108 and observed my #iOS and #Android devices immediatly going #IPv6-only and enabling its #CLAT engine.
The most surprising part though was that #macOS did the same.
I've read online multiple times, that it also requires an option in the Router Advertisement, which I currently can't set. But no, it didn't need it and also started CLAT.
Now if only #Windows would do the same...
CZ.NIC set an end to #IPv4 on June 06, 2032 in the Czech Republic. This leaves operators about 300 days to go #IPv6. As a German, I hope that this puts pressure on all European ISPs.
Want your geoblocking to actually be semi-useful? Make sure your application prefers #IPv6. I’ve got four services that I regularly use but are geoblocked from my current location. One (IPv4-only) VPN connection later and I’m in. #NetEng#InfoSec
AARRRGGGHHH - having a tough day today! This morning my #VPS provider sent me an email that they are shutting down TODAY, and I'm left looking for a VPS provide that supports #FreeBSD AND can provide #IPv4 + #IPv6, AND is inexpensive...
Any VPS provider not supporting IPv6 nowadays is really lagging behind.
$ host internet.nl
internet.nl has address 62.204.66.10
internet.nl has IPv6 address 2a00:d00:ff:162:62:204:66:10
internet.nl mail is handled by 10 vmx02.prolocation.nl.
internet.nl mail is handled by 10 vmx01.prolocation.nl.
internet.nl mail is handled by 10 vmx03.prolocation.net.
Almost 10 yrs ago it already started w/ 3x #HP#DL385 G5 (3rd in another rack). Each of them w/ 64GB RAM and 2 CPU setup. Nowadays, even larger VMs already come with this amount of RAM. I love building my own and independent #infrastructure and #AS.
#IPv6 rocks. Flawless physical migration with only a very minor downtime :-).
Thinking about networks as segregated network segments is just SO MUCH easier, this time around, I went #IPv6only and didn't even bother with setting up IPv4.
