RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — "Israel has failed to comply with an order by the United Nations’ top court to provide urgently needed aid to desperate people in the #GazaStrip#HumanRightsWatch said Monday, a month after a landmark ruling in The Hague ordered Israel to moderate its war.
"In a preliminary response to a South African petition accusing Israel of #genocide, the U.N.’s top court ordered Israel to do all it can to prevent death, destruction and any acts of genocide in Gaza. It stopped short of ordering an end to its military offensive that has triggered a humanitarian catastrophe in the tiny Palestinian enclave. Israel vehemently denies the charges against it, saying it is fighting a war in self-defense.
"One month later and nearly five months into the war, preparations are underway for Israel to expand its ground operation into #Rafah, #Gaza’s southernmost town along the border with Egypt, where 1.4 million Palestinians have flooded into in search of safety.
"Early Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin #Netanyahu’s office said the army had presented to the War Cabinet its operational plan for Rafah as well as plans to evacuate civilians from the battle zones. It gave no further details."
Governments should continue funding UNRWA, given its vital role in averting a humanitarian catastrophe. It is unconscionable to consider shutting down the UN agency most able to provide lifesaving food, water, and medicine to the people of Gaza. https://trib.al/59w6vsU
"Two Human Rights Watch staff members based in Jordan have been repeatedly targeted with advanced surveillance spyware, Human Rights Watch said today. The targeting, which violates their right to privacy, began in October 2022 and succeeded briefly in infecting one of their mobile phones.
The same spyware was also used to target the devices of at least 33 Jordanian and Jordan-based journalists, activists, and politicians between 2019 and September 2023, according to an Access Now report, released on February 1, 2024, that relied on a forensic investigation conducted jointly with the Canadian academic research center, Citizen Lab. The investigation found traces of Pegasus spyware in their mobile devices, with some devices infected multiple times. The analysis could not determine which government initiated the attacks."
“The World Court’s landmark decision puts Israel and its allies on notice that immediate action is needed to prevent genocide and further atrocities against Palestinians in #Gaza.... Lives hang in the balance, and governments need to urgently use their leverage to ensure that the order is enforced. The scale and gravity of civilian suffering in Gaza driven by Israeli war crimes demands nothing less.”

//CG
"Meta’s policies and practices have been silencing voices in support of Palestine and Palestinian human rights on Instagram and Facebook in a wave of heightened censorship of social media amid the hostilities between Israeli forces and Palestinian armed groups that began on October 7, 2023."
"Human Rights Watch (@humanrightswatch) said the US risked “complicity in war crimes” by continuing to provide Israel with weapons & diplomatic support. Paul O’Brien, the executive director of Amnesty International USA, said: “With this veto, the US government is shamefully turning its back on immense civilian suffering, a staggering death toll, & unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.”
The U.S. Touts Itself as a Global Leader in Human Rights. A New U.N. Report Says Otherwise. | ACLU
The United Nations Human Rights Committee concluded what we have long known:
The U.S. is failing to uphold some of the most basic human rights. From abolishing the death penalty to ending family separations at the border, it's time for our government to act now.
In a new report, Human Rights Watch says the Israeli military’s “unlawful attacks on medical facilities, personnel and transport are further destroying Gaza’s healthcare system and should be investigated as war crimes”.
The organisation urged the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the International Criminal Court to investigate.
The 62-page report, “‘This Hell Was My Only Option’: #Abuses Against Migrants and Asylum Seekers Pushed to Cross the Darién Gap,” is the first in a series of #HumanRights Watch reports on #migration via the #DariénGap
I'm glad to see continued reporting on the #WarCrimes being committed by #Israel and #Hamas but I'm frustrated that with exception of some NGO's, most organizations and governments are refusing to question the decisions made by the side of the war they feel affinity towards.
Israel’s use of white phosphorus in military operations in Gaza and Lebanon puts civilians at risk of serious and long-term injuries, Human Rights Watch said today in releasing a question and answer document on white phosphorus. Human Rights Watch verified videos taken in Lebanon and Gaza on October 10 and 11, 2023, respectively.
At least, that's the impression I get from the many Ukrainian social media accounts I follow.
Their grievances come down to a perceived 'both sides-ism', where these organisations choose to be tough and/or unhelpful towards Ukraine and too lenient towards #Russia
The most recent example are the comments of #HRW arguing against Ukraine's wish for #ClusterBombs whereas Russia has been using this type of #ammunition since day one.
