As part of a deal to hopefully obtain a permit for construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope, the University of Hawaii has agreed to decommission three observatories on the mountain. Now, the first of these, the University of #Hawaii Hilo's 36-inch Hōkū Keʻa Telescope (which was used for teaching) has been removed.

Kīlauea volcano is erupting. A new eruption began at approximately 12:30 a.m. HST on Monday, June 3, likely about a mile (1-2 km) south of Kīlauea caldera and north of the Koa'e fault system and Hilina Pali Road, within Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.
