Google Summer of Code 2023 is over, but our contributors' work lives on!
Discover the new features, like email support in Merkuro, automatic photo tagging in digiKam, moderation options in Tokodon, and more through the stories of the people who implemented them.
Happy to share that I have successfully completed the Google Summer of Code 2023 with @libreoffice. I would like to thank Andreas Heinisch (@DrRobotto) and Heiko Tietze for their unwavering support and mentorship throughout the #GSoC '23 program.
Finally, my 12 weeks of #GSoC with #KDE come to an end. Check out my final blog summarising the work done in implementing moderation tools in @tokodon during this period. Special thanks goes to my mentor, @carlschwan, for assisting me throughout this journey. It was an amazing experience working on this project under his guidance.

More code being reviewed these days, again by another #GSoC interns, Shubham Daule, who is doing a really great work so far: the ability for paint tools to grow layers as you paint past their boundaries.
I was not planning on having this in @GIMP 3.0 initially, and it's not merged yet, but seeing how well it is progressing, it might just get in soon!
Screencast of #dev build of #GIMP showcasing a layer being automatically resized as you paint over its boundaries.
More code review and #development news in @GIMP: we started to include pieces of the work by Idriss Fekir, one of our #GSoC interns, to improve font support.
In particular, like most FLOSS using the Pango library, we had breakages with fonts using uncommon style name (Pango didn't like this kind of originality). Well we don't anymore!
Or if you had different fonts with the same name: this too will work now!
Still very much work-in-progress and a lot more to be done! Still, it's encouraging!
Celebrating @outreachy this morning for having now provided more than 1,000 paid open source internships for underrepresented people 🥳
Grateful to @gnome and @conservancy for their role in backing this important program, and to @sphakos, @karen, and @anna for their work driving it, and to Marina Zhurakhinskaya for the legacy she has left by founding it ❤️ #FOSSY
A rare shout out to Google from the stage at #FOSSY, for having supported @outreachy from the very beginning and never stopping.
For all the companies who are fair weather friends, the team behind Google Summer of Code remain steadfast supporters.
It was an honor to be a PgM for #GSoC for a few years and come to understand the scope of the impact that team has made in FOSS. Special shout out from me to Cat Allman and Stephanie Taylor for all their work behind the scenes 💖#OpenSource
