I remember using a Flightstick Pro for the family Mac Performa in the mid 1990s. My dad had the Chuck Yeager flight simulator (which was pretty cool at the time), and that was the game he had gotten the stick for.
Eye Tracker 5, a $300 peripheral that presumably allows you to control the camera on screen with your eyes to improve the experience of driving virtual tractors, planes, and big rigs.
This is huge for America's VGDP; virtual gross domestic product! Think of the hours of virtual trucking and virtual piloting that such a device will improve!
You would think that Microsoft learnt something from the basic problems of "DLL hell". (Loosely speaking, actual DLLs not involved here.) But Microsoft is a large company, not all of Microsoft get it.
A developer of an add-ons for Microsoft #FlightSimulator can override the behaviour of built-in MSFS APIs (for things implemented in JS and HTML) for their own purposes, and such overrides will then also affect unsuspecting other add-ons, possibly breaking them badly.
The aircraft configuration (.cfg) files for Microsoft #FlightSimulator are a hilarious mix of legacy and newer settings.
The legacy versions of the game presumably used only Imperial units internally.
In MSFS 2020 the developers apparently switched to using SI units internally.
But the cfg files till mostly use Imperial units. Feet, pounds, slugs (!) times square feet (for moments of inertia), degrees Rankine for absolute temperature.
But a few new parameters inexplicably are in radians.
I’m disappointed in #ForzaMotorsport. It’s a perfectly fine game, things work and it looks fantastic and feels right but… I’m just not digging it. There’s too many menus I just click through without needing to understand (so why are they there), forced practice before races (I’ve done this track with this car, let me skip it), and it just takes way too long to get into a race. I’ve also found the difficulty settings to vary dramatically race-to-race. I’m making huge adjustments to the difficulty before every single race. I also get very distracted by all the animated pop-ups during the race. Too much information but still lacking the one thing I want to know during a race: how many seconds ahead of me is the next car? Seriously, this is important information and I don’t see it listed anywhere?
So this will likely fall into the same category I put #ForzaHorizon and #FlightSimulator in. Games I absolutely adore and am the exact target audience for, but I’ll never play them again because futzing with the settings and getting into the action takes entirely way too much time.
I love this series of videos. Very useful (I hope) when you are working on add-on aircraft to Microsoft #FlightSimulator, even if the modeller producing the series is not targeting that (as far as I know), but makes the aircraft models for other purposes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSkrlr4pQls
Is there a working and free software for speech recognition under Linux?
I would like to dictate directly into the writing program and would not like to make a diversion via Google - i.e., preferably offline.
Another #CIBSunday item from my collection is #FlightSimulator by #Microsoft for the #IBM#PC.
It comes with the staggering amount of three 5.25" disks and complete manual and maps.
(Scribbles on the box by my grandpa which I consider a bonus.)
It's from an era when games still came with manuals. #retrogaming#RetroComputing
@GossiTheDog Captain Falcon Falcon here. Awaiting my power supply to be delivered as I’m grounded on the #YUL tarmac’s. I can’t get into my F35-A, everything is electronic. (Power #outage IRL) #flightsimulator

The Tornado project is about enhancing a 1993 Flight Simulator whom many consider as the one of the best DOS flight simulators ever developed.
