In order to keep up with demand, new registrations are closed for calckey.social. We intend to re-open them in the future.

This will give admins a chance to provide resources to better scale our service. It will also enable current calckey.social users to try out the server without being hammered by continuous registration requests.

This is all a part of growth.

In the meantime, if you would really like to try , we recommend that you join one of these great community servers that are listed here:

https://calckey.org/join/

We appreciate your patience as we continue to build this community!

For those on Mastodon-run instances (or those running #Mastodon forks), this might be a good time to enable this in Preferences → Notifications:

☑️ Block direct messages from people you don't follow

Spammers seem to be (ab)using the DM functionality. Making it impossible to reach you if you do not follow a person makes that much less effective. And in general is just a good idea, IMVHO.

Tried to figure out how to do the same on #Calckey, but could not find the setting. Hjalp?

panos, to random

One of the recent changes we made in #Calckey, was to show local posts in your Home timeline. This was chosen so that new users, who don't follow anyone yet, don't land on an empty page, but instantly find local users and content to interact with. This also helps build a sense of community, by promoting interaction among a server's users, instead of making the server irrelevant to your experience, like an email service provider.

Seeing it in action on calckey.social these last few days, with new users signing up all the time and immediately engaging with others, I think it works great!

However, if you find your Home feed overwhelmingly busy, and you have built your Follows list, you can easily change this from Settings > General. There, you can choose if local posts will be displayed in your Home or in your Social timeline. By sending local posts to Social, your Home feed shows posts and boosts only by accounts you follow. And if you miss interacting with more users from your local community, you can still find them in your Local and Social timelines. :ablobbonelightstick:

If you're interested in trying #CalcKey, I set up an instance at https://screengeeks.club for people interested in TV, movies, and video games. Though anyone is welcome! 📺 🍿 🎮

I am pretty blown away by #CalcKey- I just opened an account tonight, was able to very quickly and easily import my lists and my "following" list, can Quote you so anyone reading my response can see the original quote. And it is so, so pretty here11

I could go on (because I have 3000 characters!!) but I'll leave here and go back to exploring...

It’s okay to stick with Mastodon.

is just a different way to be on the Fediverse.

Ultimately, Mastodon and Calckey can still talk to each other through .

Think of all the social media software that doesn’t allow conversation outside its walled garden!

atomicpoet, to random

So time to answer the burning question: why did I move from mastodon.social to calckey.social?

First, let's get the obvious out of the way.

I bought the calckey.social domain back in December. You see, I run a local Calckey server called vancity.social, and I noticed people were registering there just to try #Calckey. In the spirit of keeping vancity.social a local server, I felt that I needed a space to kick non-Vancouver residents so they can fool around with the software.

So the idea for calckey.social was born.

A month later, @kainoa asked if he could make it an "official" server for Calckey. It was originally supposed to be the junior server to calckey.cloud. But after awhile, he felt that there should be a place for casual folks to hang-out.

Well, once we got our ducks in a row, calckey.social shot off like fireworks.

We discovered there was lots of demand, and it was all so unpredictable. So now calckey.social is the flagship server, and it's grown by 1,200 accounts over the past 2 weeks.

Naturally, people asked why I'm on mastodon.social and not over here.

At first, it was because I didn't want to be the one to dominate the server. People who know me, realize how loud I can be.

But now that we're coming close to 1,500 accounts on calckey.social, that's no longer a big deal.

However, I still imagine that this account migration may change the very young culture here. Now that the migration is complete, I am the largest account on Calckey by follower count.

Things are about to get more noisy here.

But what a time to build a new community!

My favorite features so far:

  1. Threaded replies. Beautiful.
  2. Quote posts (of course).
  3. Boost timestamps
  4. Boosts from non-follows - I like seeing local posts on the normal TL, but I love that it includes boosts from local accounts as well
  5. MFM

Yeah, the rumours are true. #Calckey is changing its name.

A change in brand is never easy, but it’s better to do the change now rather than later.

I’ll tell you this, though. The brand will reflect the growth of the project.

What’s currently known as Calckey isn’t merely a Misskey fork anymore.

After the wake-up call from @calckey, and me signing into calckey as @lucas, I have started working on a API adaptar layer to make #Moshidon a more #CalcKey friendly app! It's still in early development though, and I will post relevant updates here and on our matrix chatroom at https://matrix.to/#/#moshidon:floss.social

You can also see the development in real time at https://github.com/LucasGGamerM/moshidon/pull/193

panos, to fediverse

I've been swamped in the last few days with all the attention and love #Calckey has been getting lately - a heartwarming problem to have, of course, but still! 😅

Anyway, I wanted to take a little time and talk about the way we've been trying to work on the development of Calckey. As you may (or may not) know, it started as a soft fork of Misskey, and as a personal project of @kainoa. As more people have been interested in the project during the last few months, what we have been trying to do (and me personally as a community manager) is to turn this into a community-driven project. What does this mean?

We want the amazing #devs (and not only, but I wanna talk mostly about devs here) who care about the #Fediverse and want to see it thrive, to be able to participate in Calckey. We have a very lively community over at Codeberg where we discuss bugs, features, what we wanna implement, what we wanna improve - and how. This is where all Calckey users are encouraged to participate and help co-shape our platform. Just make sure you do a search before submitting an issue, as we already have a number of open issues with ideas, suggestions and bug reports!

Now, the users who also have the knowledge, time and will to code, either to implement improvements they want for themselves and their servers, or simply because they want to give everyone a more pleasant and fun fedi experience, are also encouraged to do so! We're just trying to coordinate everyone who wants to work on Calckey's code, so that we're not working against each other if possible. Some design decisions have to be made, of course, so we can't promise that everything you want to implement will be merged exactly as you initially envisioned it, but we're willing to discuss and find common ground. Most of the time this is achieved easily - after all, we've all got the improvement of the platform -and of the Fediverse- on our minds! So, the idea is, if you like Calckey and want to actively contribute with code - let's talk! You can find us here on fedi, on codeberg, or in our matrix support room (#calckey:matrix.fedibird.com). We want to be a welcoming community where everyone can participate and add their personal touch in how we browse the Fediverse.

Together, working in a collective way, we are so much stronger. And we can do magic things! Let's continue building the #Fediverse platform we deserve.
Welcome to #Calckey! :calc_smile_hearts:

#Calckey #Introduction 👋🏽

I am humbly (yet unapologetically) religious. I am also secular & spiritual! Not ordained, not a scholar, but a devoted student of christian scripture and theology.

My threefold goal here is to share my thoughts, socialize with people, and hopefully make a few internet friends.

Almost everything I write here and on my blog will orbit these subjects: #apokatastasis; #bible; #christianity; #DailyGospelReading; #God; #kerygma; #metaphysics; #religion; #spirituality; #stoicism; #theodicy; #theology. I fully understand the vast majority of people are not interested in these, but I am, and that's what I'll largely write about.

Politically and theologically, I am a progressive, albeit one that does not easily and uncritically brush tradition aside.

LGBTQIA+ affirming. Christian Universalist. Socialist.

Having my followings.csv just be created on request and dropped into my Calckey drive (so I can then upload it to my Mastodon account @Artbear so I follow my people from both accounts) is just one of the coolest things ever!

Awesome feature, super useful native storage in platform on Calckey and awesome Fediverse functionality generally. Social platforms that aren't fighting each other, but co-operating effectively and you see your circle from all of them! So cool. #Calckey #Mastodon #AccountPortability #Social #Fediverse

A new feature has just been released.

The buttons in the red rectangle display how many people have:

  • Commented
  • Boosted
  • Quoted
  • Clipped

And when you click any those buttons, it will show you who exactly has replied / boosted / quoted / clipped your post!

I was looking for a 10th Fediverse instance to run, and I didn't have a Calckey instance yet.

So now I installed https://calckey.world 😎

Next steps: configure the thing and schedule backups.

Who will be my first user?

(So now I run 3 , 2 , a , a , a , a and a instance!)

I’d like to thank everyone on calckey.social for the overwhelming love and support.

When I woke up this morning, I had no idea that interest in #Calckey would pick up this much. It’s been a challenge getting everything up to our preferred standard, but we’ve made significant progress.

I’d also like to thank all the other Calckey servers who’ve picked up our slack. And the entire dev team deserves praise for making software that so many people love.

I’m overwhelmed by the response!

It's kind of both equally sad and equally hilarious to see some folks in the #Mastoverse raging about Universeodon are genuinely shook to suddenly discover that the wider #Fediverse has had federated #search available for years.

When you get told that Mastodon=Fediverse and that its culture and capabilities are those of the wider Fediverse, well this is the ignorance you can expect. Many of the same folks screaming about indexing, and pushing the fediblock, still have not offered any solutions to Google already indexing everything - much wider scope than #Universeodon, or those of use on #Misskey, #Calckey, #Akkoma, etc, can achieve and it's searchable from the public web.

I don't mind #Firefish as the new name for #Calckey - but I have to say that when I first read it I thought of #Firefox - as many in this Lemmy thread have - and seeing the new logo & colour I can't help but wonder if Mozilla will push back as part of their active protection of their trademark, a point @leigh makes. https://beehaw.org/post/6709040

Danke, das das Fediverse so bunt an Software ist und jeder seine Software finden kann. 👍

Falls ihr eine Funktion vermisst, liegt es vielleicht auch nur daran, das ihr die falsche Software für das Fediverse nutzt.

So, with there being so many, should we collectively refer to all the different forks of #Misskey #Calckey #Sharkey #Hajkey #IceShrimp #Firefish #Foundkey #Meisskey etc as

#Forkey ?😂

From a Dev to People On Fedi (pls boost):
While i understand that there's lots of drama around firefish, please do actual research. Sharkey is not and has NEVER been a firefish/ fork, it didn't spring of from firefish. it started off as just an indipendent Misskey soft-fork(updates with misskey), there is no relation at all to firefish, it is incredibly damaging to call it a firefish fork, as the sharkey team actually spends lots of time just implementing features that people wish for (this include some features firefish has), while also spending time on making sure they work decently unlike (firefish some times)

also it's just as damaging to call Iceshrimp an offspring of the whole firefish drama now, Iceshrimp while an actual fork of firefish existed way before the entire recent firefish drama the only recent ofspring of firefish is and then again catodon is not trying to be firefish, catodon is its own thing it wants to sit inbetween mastodon and *key as a more userfriendly thing with alot of the "fun" misskey stuff removed, and is doing a full rewrite of firefish in c#, none of these projects are even remotly similar to the firefish way of doing things, some of them aren't even in any relation to

tldr: stop calling things firefish sucessor, esspecialy don't call sharkey a firefish ofspring it was never in any way related to firefish
