#Amazon are running an advert on #Twitch for #Audible. A woman has increasing problems with her car and just chuckles somewhat insanely. Punch-line is that whilst it's all going wrong around her she's listening to something funny.
Amazon want you to think "hey it's lightening her mood".
What I'm actually thinking is that if she wasn't distracted by trivia she wouldn't shaft her car, drop her keys carelessly into an oily ditch, or stupidly leave her door open to the road to have it torn off.
Does anyone else here use #audible ? Since I work on screens all day it’s become my preferred way to read novels. Over the last couple of years, Audible has been developing Netflix-style enshittification: You have to wade through deeper and deeper swamps of garbage to find something worth reading. This has got worse recently — many books seem worse than the most amateur fan fiction and it’s difficult to understand how they ever got published. Finding my next read has become an unpleasant chore.
Looking for your #recommendations... I have 2 (two) #Audible credits in my account. What are some of your favorite audiobooks you'd recommend to someone?
Taking any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Every time I'm reminded of this novella, I want to reread it. A wonderful story and amazing audio performance by Penelope Rawlins.
It is the tale of the girl who popped the bubble, the girl who forced people to face the lies they tell themselves and face their cognitive dissonance.
She is not sorry, she is the one adjusted to the harsh reality of a blue ball apocalypse.
I want to get away from Amazon, which includes Audible. I‘ve been subscribed to Audible for years and love that new Star Trek books are available there.
My research into alternatives brought me, once more, to what my library has to offer. Well, to make it short, Star Trek wise it‘s an absolute desert. Even through Libby it‘s a wasteland. I will mark all Trek books I’d like to read or listen to on my wishlist now, which, as I understand it, will inform my library that there‘s interest in that book. But let‘s be real here, I doubt there‘s lots of demand for these books, let alone in English, in my region. (Middle of nowhere in Germany)
I also put Patrick Stewart‘s „Make It So“ audio on hold. I‘m number 5 on the list which means a wait of ca. 10 weeks. At least that book is in demand. Maybe it‘s a sign that Trek books may be more in demand as I thought? 🤞
The only reason the #Audible app has a high rating in the #AppStore is because of people who review the audio books instead of the actual app. 🙄🤷♂️ If people actually reviewed the app as they should be, the rating would be far lower as the app has a lot of performance problems and is prone to crashing! It’s annoying how little effort and resources #Amazon is putting into this app on iOS, does it run any better on #Android?
Shame #Apple doesn’t currently have an #audiobooks subscription service.
"We’re excited to announce the launch of an invitation-only U.S. beta that enables KDP authors to quickly and easily produce an audiobook version of their eBook using virtual voice narration"
There's a huge community of voiceover actors who this will potentially impact.
This morning I was surprised to see that 12 credits were added to my Audible account with no explanation. I contacted support and was told it was for being a loyal customer, weird but true.
Now I got an E-Mail with the real reason:
“Our hearts go out to all impacted by the tragic events in the Middle East. While only a small gesture, we want to do what we can to make things a bit easier for members impacted at this time and have paused your billing for the next six months”.
Cool, thanks Audible, the books are indeed helping me cope.
With the news that Amazon/Audible is now offering an ai narrator conversion beta for books in KDP Select...but that the resulting audiobooks will be offered in an all-you-can-eat Audible Plus subscription model, means that author royalties will likely take another dive (just like musicians have experienced with streaming on Spotify). That's not even taking into account the effect on narrators. More in my blog.
I just heard — hands down — the best zombie story ever told.
It's not scary; it is wildly clever and I can't recommend this quick read/listen enough... if you have #Audible, give this a listen. And if you don't, (consider getting Audible bc all the cool kids have it and at a bare minimum just for the time being) track down Andy Weir's short story "Anti Anthoxiant."
