I'm reading Foundation for the first time, in preparation for an upcoming review for @NerdsofaFeather , and I'm torn between 'Asimov is doing something brilliant' and 'Asimov is doing something very silly'. I really hope it's the former. I can see how it could be. But I fear it's going to end up being the latter, because in my experience reading Golden Age #SF, writing in that era doesn't tend to do the thing that needs to happen for the former.
@josh As a kid I read the Foundation trilogy in the 70's, and I'm so happy that the TV series is going in different directions. The overall arc is following the books, but many of the details are different and I love it! One of my must-see programs (along with Rick and Morty, of course!).
TIL about #Asimov, a tool to exclude build target folders for various tech stacks from a #TimeMachine backup. Be sure to install the latest head (for #Gradle support) and have your folder permissions set correctly (I had to fix mine to see my projects). https://github.com/stevegrunwell/asimov
Happy Birthday to Isaac Asimov, born OTD on Jan. 2, 1920.
"Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'
The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.
If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them."
that episode really hit home when it originally aired; I’d first read a science fiction story about the Epic of Gilgamesh not long before it aired in Isaac Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine (“Gilgamesh in Uruk”, by Robert Silverberg, June, 1988, issue). #StarTrek#Darmok#Gilgamesh#Asimov#Silverberg
I grew up reading Heinlein novels too; the difference (I think) is that I learned (a) how to read critically and (b) that Heinlein loved to play fake-out mind games using unreliable narrators, to study ideological positions he didn't necessarily agree with but enjoyed playing with. Oh, and (c) he had some weird unexamined cognitive biases.
I only just recently watched season one of #Foundation. I was not expecting how good this would be. I, like others have said, didn't expect Apple to do Asimov well, but as far as the shows goes, it stands on its own. I still need to watch season two. It is a quite remarkable show and probably doesn't get enough attention. #SciFi#ScienceFiction
I only read 2 to 3 #Asimov books, but that was way back when I was in my mid-teens. I don't remember what I read, but nothing about the show seems familiar at all, so it is most likely I didn't read #Foundation. Once this show has completed, I will then read Asimov's Foundation. Naturally, I do expect the book series, or collection, to be even better than the show. I do, however, want to see how the show ends first. #IsaacAsimov

Asimov's books span a thousand years. No way to adapt that to a television serial format, so the story was modified/adapted for the format. Goyer and others took the essential elements of Asimov's story and wove a new narrative around it, while maintaining the critical pivot points of the novels that drive the story forward.
I think they've done an amazing job and made the first sci fi books I read into an elegant television series.

Withdrawing anything I said despising Foundation for not being respectful to Asimov
I know #Foundation TV show is not much related to original Isaac #Asimov's books, but OMG I'm enjoying it!
Probably the fact that they are not following the books but writing a different story within same context is making me eager to know more and enjoying it a lot!
It has been a while since I've had so much fun with a #scifi TV show!
