Working on an Archive project with a buddy

He has a box of Betacam SP Tapes that won’t show Video, but have Time Code.

A bit of time spent on them reveals they were Recorded in Betacam SX -
a different signal format, thou on the same size Cassette.

SP is an 80s Analogue #Broadcast Format. SX is newer, Digital System from the late 90s

I’ve now Digitised them for him.

Thou #Betacam SP is an Analogue Format the picture quality is stunning

What is a good way of crawling and archiving a complete website for offline viewing? One of the services that has a lot of data that is important to me is shutting down without any options for archiving my data. It has a pretty JavaScript heavy UI and is protected with a login page that includes MFA. Ideally I'd be able to save it to a nice format like WARC.

fooderick,

The archiveweb.page extension seems to work well, but there are hundreds of links I would need to click to get to all the pages I'd like to archive. Ideally this would be an automated solution, though I would be open to writing some Python code to navigate this specific website. I think I would have to have something configured so I could manually log in before the scraping starts.

Well Documented Code Helps Revive Decades-Old Commodore Project: Moral Of The Story, If You Want To Keep It, Print It On Paper

Luckily, Stephen’s younger self went to some extremes documenting the project, starting with a map he created which was inspired by Dungeons and Dragons. There are printed notes from a Commodore 64 printer, including all the assembly instructions, augmented w ...continues

What’s the Best Way to Store Data for Decades or Centuries? Bottom line: No Technology that is Easy or Practical

The concern keeps coming up (I’ve also been pondering it a lot and posted in this last week what I’ve been doing).

With around 180,000 people dying daily, I found more analogue ways of preserving my memories

Question for my nerdy mutuals:

Do you keep a digital backup library of your DVD or Bluray movies or shows?

If so, what do you use on Linux?

I've been using vlc but struggling with subpar quality, and lack of subtitle backups, any help or advice would be awesome!

#linux

FOSSingularity,

So far, i've given VLC and Handbrake each a shot at ripping the same movie;
vlc spat out a very low resolution mp4 file with broken audio, Handbrake took 16 hours to pump out a 13.5 gb file with broken audio and artifacted to high hell and back.
So so far it aint going greeeeeat.
I'm giving MakeMKV a shot but i'm starting to feel my best bet may just be 'pirating' copies of what I already own that I want on my server...
I'm way too hard of hearing to not have subtitles available to me.

Weirdly enough, the most pain-free method i've experienced of makimg backups like this is with my jailbroken ps3 (which is currently missing both a controller and a disk drive)

Q: Is it possible to use multiple different database folders in #NeoFinder and quickly switch between them?

A. Yes, with a little help of the powerful #AppleScript #Automation, that is possible and really comfortable.

Is there any tool to download public posts and retoots and reply toots of an inactive Mastodon account? I forgot to backup my posts before migrating, and I don't know a method that doesn't involve disabling inactivity on the account (and not sure what that will do).
