Honestly, I’ve been really enjoying making these, probably the most I’ve been excited to model something for months. So I exchanged some sleep for a faster turnaround :) Previous post here...
Blenderheads who would like to get a taste of SDF 3D modeling, here's a Blender Geometry Nodes scene that turns meshes into pseudo-SDFs by beveling Boolean intersections…
Started a new hard-surface modeling project in MagicaCSG.
By posting works in progress here, I force myself to turn this into something interesting, or I will be unmasked as an impostor, and eternal embarrassment will be my fate. 😅
Since I've started using PrusaSlicer 2.6.α, supports are good enough and easy enough that I'm not really trying to avoid them in my designs. If anything, I'll try to keep them in hidden areas, as they usually leave visible artifacts.
Even better than the organic supports is the automatic support painting. The slicer knows where supports are needed better than I do.
This is a case for a MIDI breakout box. I wonder if it will snap together. I wonder if the lettering is in bad taste. I wonder if Optima's fine serifs will emboss okay.
If my MagicaCSG modeling posts have attracted your interest in the SDF modeling method, you might like to have a look at Womp, a free online SDF editor (with a "Pro" subscription option).
I've just played with it for a few minutes, and you can export your scene as an OBJ file, complete with textures for recreating the Womp materials in Blender, as you can see in the screenshot.
Three long evenings of learning Blender and the basics of Sims 4 modding, here I am, my first mod is in the game. It's not perfect and it needs both texturing and some tweaking, but it works! 🐴
Ok I tried to do actual real grownup work but this #snooker match is way too engrossing, so knocking up a few basic #Blender models instead and the grownup work can be a problem for Future Me.
As you can tell from this pic, my modelling skills are as of yet very very basic. But we all start somewhere!
OC I’m back with several more community icons: check out Artemis (future kbin app), Urban Details, 3D Modeling and some other stuff
