Lawrence O’Donnell:

“We had a monster in the presidency not because of Donald #Trump, but because of the people who voted for Donald Trump and because of the people who worked for Donald Trump’s campaign to get him there. You get monsters like Donald Trump thanks to people like Hope Hicks.”

@GottaLaff
I find it astounding that anyone can defend Hicks. She was a crucial part of the orange stain's machinery, and she clearly isn't the slightest bit remorseful about it - still praising him and upset about being forced to testify against him.

It's people like her that make it possible for tyrants to take over.

She may not seem like a monster, but people like her are the epitome of what it takes to destroy society.

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@realtegan Agree.

Colby,
@Colby@mastodon.world avatar

@GottaLaff I’m surprised some here express sympathy. Hicks was his confidant throughout the campaign and presidency, and she remains loyal. Indefensible

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@Colby Exactly.

@GottaLaff And George Bush and Karl Rove and Dick Cheney and Dick Armey and Newt Gingrich and Tom Delay and Pat Buchanon and Roger Stone and Ronald Reagan and Pat Falwell and Grover Norquist and... the list goes on.

Donald Trump is the symptom not the disease.

@GottaLaff Here for the comments 🍿👀

But I would like to add: if you think it's bad now, wait 20 years when they rehabilitate all of these people's reputations and they stick us with them again...

see if they are good then 😉

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@Aviva_Gary I've never thought they were good. I've always called them allies in this one instance, but never more than that. They're all Republicans who don't want what we want, other than democracy.

@GottaLaff A 20-minute screed leaving Hope Hicks burned to the waterline—without once mentioning her good looks—is the kind of content only O'Donnell can deliver.

@12thRITS He's good at it

@GottaLaff Yep. 'Hopey' is a piece of shit. She's known FOR YEARS wha a fucking liar is and she said and did nothing.

ccdudley85,
@ccdudley85@mastodon.world avatar

@GottaLaff This trial seems to be about how people were deceived into voting against someone who had been cheated on in favor of someone who cheated by illegally covering up the cheating and then covering up the cover-up.

Blame the deceivers on all sides, not the deceived, I think.

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@ccdudley85 Hicks was a deceiver. She is his ally.

ccdudley85,
@ccdudley85@mastodon.world avatar

@GottaLaff It is blaming the voters for the monster that seems like a problem to me.

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@ccdudley85 Both are, as Lawrence pointed out... somewhere. Not sure if it's in this clip, but it was said.

thatmags,
@thatmags@mastodon.nz avatar

@GottaLaff He rightly does not give Hicks a millimeter of space, drawing the stark contrast between her choices and those of Cassidy Hutchison, both young women with proximity to power.

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@thatmags That was one of the most effective parts, yes.

Wileymiller,
@Wileymiller@mastodon.social avatar

@GottaLaff
That takedown of Hope Hicks, while the rest of media was handling her with kid gloves, was SO well deserved. Bravo, once again, Lawrence.

darthstar,
@darthstar@mastodon.online avatar

@Wileymiller @GottaLaff
I thought she was a good witness for the prosecution, but I'm more interested in seeing her testify about his attempted coup in the DC trial...when that finally happens.

Hopefully she doesn't tear up when she says her former boss was arranging a coup attempt.

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@darthstar If she were to tear up then, it would be because it failed. @Wileymiller

@GottaLaff I think Lawrence is being a bit unfair. She was 25 years young when all this was going on, just out of college. I would be hard pressed to defend my life choices as a 25 year-old but I know I was not evil in my youthful ignorance. This seems a bit like punching down to me.

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@Dawilson999 She was 26, an adult, not a child. She chose this. She saw what he was doing, and even worse, from behind the scenes. She knew what sexual assault was. She knew his “policies” and continued to support them and him.

She still does.

No, he wasn’t punching down. People are way too sympathetic to her.

Dawilson999,
@Dawilson999@sfba.social avatar

@GottaLaff Your points are good but I would like clarification on one of your statements, “She still is.” Are you saying she lied under oath? If so I would love to hear more about that.

tiamat271,
@tiamat271@mastodon.online avatar

@Dawilson999 @GottaLaff I take that to mean she still supports him and his policies. Not sure where lying under oath is implied.

Dawilson999,
@Dawilson999@sfba.social avatar

@tiamat271 @GottaLaff I don’t know how she feels about his policies now but the fact that they haven’t communicated in years seems to indicate that she no longer supports him. If she lied under oath I would take back my original statement entirely.

tiamat271,
@tiamat271@mastodon.online avatar

@Dawilson999 @GottaLaff I’ll not sure if you’re intentionally trying to be argumentative or what. Laffy said Hicks still supports him/his policies. That could be accurate or it might not be. You responded by demanding an example of perjury. That would be relevant if Hicks was asked on the stand if she still supports him (she wasn’t). Laffy’s inference about her character has nothing to do with whether Hicks lied under oath, and I don’t understand your conflating them.

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@tiamat271 @Dawilson999 Thank you Jenny. You already said what I would have.

She still supports him, feels affection for him, that was very clear. She praised him under oath. Also, watch Lawrence's A-Block above. She also failed to cooperate fully with J6, and was forced to in this trial. I said nothing about lying under oath, nor even suggested it, but Lawrence did.

JeanPoole_AZ,
@JeanPoole_AZ@mastodon.social avatar

@GottaLaff @Dawilson999 Hicks left the WH in March of 2018 to work at Fox News for $1.8M but then went back to work for Trump as “counselor to the president” in March of 2020 (she also served as an aide to Jared Kushner). By then, much was known about Trump’s character, policies and pathological lying but she still worked to get him re-elected and stayed until January, 2021. She is undeserving of anyone’s praise or sympathy, especially from members of the media.

@Dawilson999 I don’t think punching down applies here, but these are opinions.

Political campaigns are filled with young workers and while I can accept youth explaining a person’s ethical or moral lapses, if looks back do not acknowledge the import and wrongness of actions, then the character core of knowing right from wrong and taking responsibility were and will be never there.

The ADA believed one answer she gave was inconsistent with her Grand Jury testimony. We’ll see if that’s pursued.
