I love those videos where a guy cooks a big meal -- bread, steak, veggies, tea -- in the wilderness, with nothing but a knife, tea kettle, and a big flat rock.

... And the $50,000 vehicle that brought him to the wilderness, and ten grand of video editing equipment, and an entire global trade system that brought him his spices and oils and meats and veggies...

People watching that thing thinking, I'll be ok when civilization fails, I know where there's a flat rock.

@fatsam I'm told actual farmers find prepper shows to be hilarious.

@kithrup @fatsam I found out that the vast majority of ‘bushcraft survival’ videos are made by guys camping with ‘absolutely nothing’ on land they own or have access to.

@kithrup @fatsam I do a lot of food gardening at home and let me tell you if I had to feed myself, if I had to provide 100% of our calories, I'd be turbo fucked.

@depereo @kithrup @fatsam That's what most people don't realize: the sheer acreage required to provide the number of calories required.

@BsCreativeLife @msbellows @depereo @kithrup @fatsam i now have a first hand experience with that, two years ago I bought a piece of land, 1000sqm, this year I'm only growing stuff on a small part of it, and I'll get maybe a few jars to tomato pasta and maybe a few kilos of different vegetables each. By far not enough to survive months

@depereo @kithrup @fatsam and on top of that 3/4 of the shelves in the supermarket contain food that no one really needs. How much Earth was wasted for that. We are like bacterias in a flask, which will eat all the sugar and never think about the consequences.

@fatsam that's why I love Steve Wallis videos, he makes content about sleeping in the woods, but he also makes fun of that bushcraft/survivalist people

@fatsam The challenge might then become getting the steak out of the boar. Last time I checked they don't hand that out willingly.... 🤣

Or grinding the wheat to be able to get a dough for that loaf of bread. But when you already have a flat rock I'm sure ther'll be another one to use as millstone...

@fatsam I watch that guy too. I don’t understand the appeal.

But I still watch him

@fatsam In case of the cybertruck, it's even 80K :D

And even more useless

fatsam,
@fatsam@mstdn.social avatar

@ljrk that is a truly awful piece of gear.

@fatsam But it even has a camping extension!! Very nature, much independent! :'-D

@brinnbelyea @fatsam It's amazing how these people complain and yet defend Tesla. "Broke down after the first 5 miles, but those 5 miles were great!"

They have issues.
