Breaking: rapist has posted a bond of nearly $92 million in E. Jean Carroll defamation case. The posted bond is exactly $91,630,000.00, which includes a district’s courts common practice of requiring a bond of 110% of the judgement.

Insurance company Chubb underwrote the $91.63 million bond for Donald Trump, which the former president signed on Tuesday, March 5.
Under the terms of the bond, Chubb will only secure the appeal of the $83.3 million judgment, not any future appeals.

Rapist got someone to give him almost exactly that amount. America has no idea who that is or who he is now beholden to, and that is unacceptable as a counterintelligence matter.

The whole world wants to know where the money to purchase the bond came from.

And U.S. intelligence needs to know.

A billionaire shouldn’t need an agency to post his $90M bond. That should be chump change to a billionaire. Where’s Mr. I’m so rich when it comes to paying his bills?

UPDATE: Judge Kaplan is giving E Jean Carroll’s team time to object. The case is not stayed, it is unknown what was presented as a bond. If he paid cash into the clerk’s custody there should be proof. What are the odds that it’s a scam?❗️

"I wonder if they issued it without collateral…normally a surety will not issue an appeal bond without cash collateral of some amount. Plus he has a premium to pay which is likely large given the bond limit. Typically one has to sign an indemnity agreement to reimburse the surety from any payout… I was told his history with the surety industry is bad (defaults on prior #bonds due to BK filings) so I’m surprised any surety would take this on. Likely lots of pressure by bullies" -sharonrusconi

Maybe I imagined the news story from earlier...I can't find it now, that Judge Kaplan wants the bench to have eyes on where the collateral came from, tho not releasing it to the public.

Are we sure the collateral was cash? All told, if Evan Greenberg is doing this on 'assurances' from either Trump or his backers, without full collateral, he stands to take a...~80M bath? I assume Trump had to pay a bond commission up front & I'm just winging ~15M.

@skykiss On one hand, I need to know.

On the other hand, it's a great propaganda prod that we DON'T know, that the question and the threat of a Donald betrayal needs to be weighed by the voters.

But, if we can catch him with his hand in the vodka vat...

Financial flows from foreign sources can enable criminal activities, erode democratic values, and compromise a nation’s security.

Foreign Influence Campaigns: Money from foreign entities can be used to manipulate political processes, sway elections, and influence policy decisions. This undermines national sovereignty and democratic integrity.
Such interference threatens the stability of democratic systems and can compromise national security.

Corruption and Democracy Erosion: Corruption corrodes democratic institutions and undermines the rule of law. Authoritarian states weaponize corruption to disrupt democratic processes in other nations.
Misappropriation of public assets, bribery, and other forms of corruption weaken governance, perpetuate conflict, and deprive civilians of their rights.

"I'm sure it's all perfectly respectable. Trump gets a loan from an ex employee who is currently enabling Putin's war. What could possibly be wrong here?"

    Key Details about the Bond:

Amount: The bond is worth $91.63 million.

Purpose: It serves as security while Trump appeals the defamation judgment.

Backing: The bond is backed by The Chubb Corporation, an insurance company.
Background: Notably, in 2018, Trump nominated Evan Greenberg, Chubb’s CEO, to serve as a member of his administration’s advisory committee for trade policy and negotiations.

In New York, a person must pay a court a cash bond that amounts to 110 percent of the judgment to appeal the ruling of a civil case. This means that Trump had to pay more than $91 million to challenge the defamation penalty.

Keep in mind that the bond is a financial guarantee that ensures the judgment amount will be available if the appeal is unsuccessful. It provides assurance to the court that the defendant will comply with the judgment even during the appeal process.

Ms.Carroll's "NY judgment was filed on February 8, 2024. The 30 day stay of enforcement under FRCP 62 expires on Saturday. Monday is the first day that the judgment creditor can likely perfect a judgement lien on Trump assets.

If I were doing this, I would have lawyers ready to perfect the lien usually by recording it on Monday in NY as soon as the recording bureau opens. Also be ready to move in federal court to domesticate the judgment in Florida, Virginia and New Jersey.

When Judge Kaplan denied Trump's last ditch effort to obtain a stay it told me Monday could be Trump bankruptcy day though he can file Friday to make certain no lien will attach by filing before Saturday, 30 days from entry of the judgment." -t.h.

What Idiot Backed Trump’s Bond in E. Jean Carroll Trial? This One.

rapist posted a $91.6 million bond, which covers the $83.3 million he was ordered to pay in damages for defaming Ms. Carroll, after he sexual assaulted her and interest for putting off payment for so long. He had repeatedly tried to get the deadline to pay delayed or get the total ruling amount reduced, but the presiding judge struck him down every time.

📢 And just Thursday, Trump was ordered to pay $382,000 in legal fees for Orbis Business Intelligence, the consulting firm owned by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele.* Trump had sued Orbis over a dossier Steele compiled in 2016 that alleged Trump and members of his inner circle had been “compromised” by Russia’s security service.

Trump has to pay Christopher Steele. Let’s examine the Verified Claims:
Some key allegations made in the dossier were later corroborated:
Russian Interference: The dossier claimed that Vladimir Putin favored Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton and ordered an “influence campaign” to harm Clinton’s campaign and undermine faith in the U.S. democratic process. These claims were later supported by the Mueller Report. That many Trump campaign officials and associates had numerous secretive contacts with Russian officials and agents. Some of these contacts were indeed confirmed during investigations.

@skykiss Kaplan's Order was reported on/published by @Brandi_Buchman today. Here it is: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24467891-kaplan-order-on-bond-carroll-can-reply-by-march-11 I don't know if Abramson is an attorney, but of course Carroll has standing. She is a litigant with a direct interest in getting paid the awarded judgement. That is why Kaplan gave her the opportunity to challenge the "form, amount, or proposed surety" or Trumps request to post the bond. On Monday. I hope her lawyer rejects the bond and makes him start to sell off his assets

@skykiss Do I understand from various posts this morning that Bond posters in US don’t actually have to pay money into the court? In this case, that would be a farce! Surely E. Jean Carroll has a right to be certain the money will actually be collectable after appeal.

"A surety bond also replaces the need for collateral. The plaintiff, or party to whom the money judgment is awarded, is fully protected by the bond and ensured payment, that is if the appealing party can afford the bond. [7]

Chubb is on the hook to pay and $100 million is a pittance for them. 2023 profits were $5.2B on $44.7B revenue.

@skykiss billionaires typically have most assets in the form of shares / properties / other non-liquid asset. So, to pay that money you need to liquidate some assets (which could have major market impacts). Point is that getting a loan for this is nothing strange in itself.

But, given the current security environment, any creditor should probably be checked twice.
