youronlyone,

I don't know if I should laugh or I should applaud.

I mean, it is understandable why they are doing this. That is good and all. However, #FPS games are, well, #games. FPS games are not #RPG, that's #RolePlayingGame not rocket-propelled grenade. 😅

In an FPS match, there is nothing to be gained in not blowing up buildings. On the contrary, it can serve as an advantage to do so because your enemy will have less places to hide, while you are waiting to snipe them.

NPCs are NPCs. They are not people. It doesn't matter if you shoot them, burn them, drown them, or whatever.

FPS is FPS.

And #gaming is more about rewards.

For example, in #GuildWars2, which is an #MMORPG, we get rewards healing a downed NPC, so, we do it without the need to ask us.

Lastly, heal your enemy? In an FPS game? If that is even possible to do, why would anyone do it? Even in RPG, no one would do it even if that is possible. A #PK / #PvP kill is a kill, let them spawn by themselves.

Again. Good idea. The intention is there, and I applaud them for that. However, none of it makes sense in games meant for competition and matches.

@youronlyone In a world where there are actual war crimes committed, by actual conflict parties, I think it’s important to remind people, and especially teach young folks, that there are rules, even in war.

Otherwise, I’m afraid that many will just shrug when actual real-life war crimes are exposed.

youronlyone,

@scy That's true, and it is a good initiative. However, from a games' and gamers' perspective, the challenge the put forth is not ideal, and in most cases not doable.

Like those I mentioned, it's not possible to heal your enemy… and even if it is, who would do that in a game.

They want to challenge FPS gamers to do this and that, but FPS is not an RPG. In games like Guild Wars 2, we do have training dummies, and automatons. Those are the NPCs we kill to test our new build. But, again, it's RPG.

Hmm… I remembered a game made by legendary #RichardGarriott called #TabulaRasa. It is a third-person shooter set in an RPG world.

In that game, while it is all about shooting like any other shooter games, because of the RPG elements in it, we role-played based on the story. We did not shoot innocent NPCs. We did not blow up buildings even though we can. And yes, we did heal an enemy.

All because the game mechanics allow it, and the story is about humanity.

@youronlyone I agree that it’s not that useful in current shooters. (But, as you can see, it at least gets people to talk about it!)

However, I think I’d fully support an initiative to design games that actually implement these “rules of war”. Especially those that try to be hyper-realistic!
