I've recently been playing some #IngressPrime when a friend told me I might like it...
I'm still not sure about all of the options on the game. I just got to level 5.
I went with the "blue team" that seems less of a favorite, seeing their numbers. I've been doing my best capturing portals and all that. I dunno if there's any players near me, but I'd love to learn more about the game! 😁

I've tried one green portal but no luck, as tou said. I am recharging my postal whenever I pass them again. Doing my best. 😊 Though a few more smurfs in the area would be nice 😉
@PlaystationPixy you can recharge portals remotely, if you’ve kept a spare key. I’ve been known to recharge up to 350 portals in times of great boredom, though I’m trying to be more sensible!
@PlaystationPixy when you hack a portal, you sometimes get a key (almost always if you glyph-hack and use the MORE command). These get used up when you make links and fields, so if you want to keep portals charged, stash keys in a capsule. @nic pooh I tried to read all about the glyph hacking and it sounds like a complicated thing to do. Will definitely have to try that some day. 😊 Thanks for the tip and link! 😁
@PlaystationPixy once you get the hang of it — and maybe learn the meanings of the individual glyphs — it gets easier, honestly. And at lower levels you’ll never need to remember more than 3 symbols! There are “training apps” for the truly sad!
The only thing that helps: practice, practice, practice. And: It's not bad if you don't get the glyphs completely correct every time. Even just one correct one is still better than not glyphing at all.
@PlaystationPixy@smial I’m lucky enough to have a home portal, so I get a lot of practice on a level 8, with 5 glyphs. I still mess up, and can’t handle the superfast “complex” setting. Learning the phrases really helps.
@PlaystationPixy@smial I have to say the names out loud (subvocally, if I'm in public!) and then I can repeat them back. The last couple I've had this morning: “use keys together create star”, “react rebel question shapers' lies”. There's actually fewer “phrases" of 5 symbols, so you start to recognise them.
@PlaystationPixy A now ex-player who I sometimes drink with never bothered learning the glyphs names, so his phrases were like “tick windmill pipe uphill star”, which seems harder to me, but worked for him!
@nic a friend just linked me some YouTube players to watch, said it had helped him loads. So I got me some homework I guess 😉

@PlaystationPixy it's a shame that so many people bounce off #Ingress when they start, but I also like that it's a bit “underground” and nerdy, and that everything isn't laid out on a plate for you, and that the game can be played in many different ways.
@nic yeah it's definitely a good game and has many layers and ways to play. I am enjoying it. But leveling does take quite some time! I'm still level 5 and I've been doing my best on foot to get portals, to keep them up and all that. 😊
@nic thanks. I am trying to get more steps in, a reason a friend recommended me this game. So getting the trekking badges should be the easier ones for me, I recon. 😊
@PlaystationPixy@nic I used the glypher app to practise glyphing. But hacking a level 1 or 2 portal is great practice too. There are loads of #howto video's on YouTube. And there is an old pdf called #ingressbootcamp that covers most of the basics. Btw the red portals are easy to destroy! And Niantic increased the low burster's firepower so from lvl 3 up the busters work nicely. @EllyvA I’m getting too old for this; I had a frantic hour on the first 2sday thing, running around the small town where we were on holiday, trying to smash every Machina portal, rebuild and perfectly link it all up. I need to relax! Getting a bit better recently, I think
@nic I think I am older than you lol. But I mostly cargress or use the "scooter". And still get tired 🙈 #LongCovid and #chronicpain. But gaming is a great distraction from pain. (The doctors told me to use distraction.) I tested it. Walking the same stretch twice. Firstly without ingress and back with it. Guess what the outcome was? ✌️
@EllyvA I’m in my mid-50s, “running around” was mostly figurative! It's great that Ingress helps you get out and about - it's much the same for me. When I stopped played for a week, the e-bike stayed in the shed for a week. This week, we’ve done 50 km or so.
@nic That is great! Have used the E-Bike too before Covid. Baffled all the local smurfs lol. Hope to buy an electric folding bike in the future if my health improves. I'm 60 btw 🙈
@EllyvA we’re lucky enough to be able to live car-free, at least for the time being. My partner is 70, but she’s fitter than I am — she rode to her steps class this morning while I was still in bed! If I could only get her interested in Ingress!
@nic@EllyvA I'm in my 40s, also dealing with chronic pain and using the game to stay mobile and as a distraction. 😊 Though I'm just a level 5 and I had no idea what you two just talked about 😂 but that's cool, I'm guessing I'll learn as I slowly level up. 😊

@EllyvA@nic yeah I wanted to work on my health ND then a friend suggested I should try try game. Been using it here and there and I feel I'm slowly learning. 😊
@PlaystationPixy@nic When I started in 2015 I didn't know if there were any tutorials whatsoever. Had to work out everything myself. Took me 7 months or so to reach lvl8 🙈 The secret is building and lots of fielding & later on destroying portals with many links on them. 😉 I don't know if you live in a rural area. First Saturdays are great to level up. But you need 10 💚 and 10 💙 agents to organise one. And a spot with many portals and hopefully a nice café/bar get to meet up. GTG Bedtime(-)/
@EllyvA@PlaystationPixy Same here, first time levelling took a looooong time. I’m in rural Wales, so there weren’t a lot of portals, although there were more players! I didn’t know the thing about needing a certain number of badges to level up past 8, so got stuck at level 11, with enough points for level 13!
I like that there’s still things to learn in the game. I can’t do big fields (no car), so enjoy maximising the number of microfields possible in the surrounding small towns. There’s one active 🐸 in my region, who makes and maintains large fields while travelling for work, so I fit in the gaps he leaves!

@PlaystationPixy Welcome new agent! I’ve been playing since (nearly) the beginning, and despite my best efforts am still hooked. Happy to help in any way, even if you did choose to be a cursèd smurf! (No judgement; I’ve switched factions twice. Blue just isn’t for me, and I’m in the middle of nowhere, so it makes little difference. If your local map is mostly green, you made the right decision - conflict is good💥)
@nic howdy and thanks! 😊 There's red and green on my local map, not too much blue, so there definitely will be some conflict 😉 I'm slowly learning about the game and I hope I'm doing ok. Just wish there were more blue players so connect with l, feels like I'm fighting alone a lot. Will check my comma, never used them so far. 😊
