The Voyeur of Utter Destruction (As Beauty) - David Bowie, live 1996

Outside is a David Bowie concept album written with Brian Eno.

In a career full of oddities, 1995’s Outside is the longest, darkest and weirdest album Bowie produced, presaging themes as disparate as art-based mutilation, pre-millennial tension, and that nascent harbinger of cultural revolution: the internet. - Adam Trainer, writing for PopMatters

The Voyeur of Utter Destruction did not get a music video, and most live footage I've seen of it is a bit patchy, so I was delighted to discover this excellent performance which was recorded in Amsterdam and aired live on Dutch television in 1996. Mike Garson on piano.

The Voyeur of Utter Destruction As Beauty (sung by the Artist/Minotaur).

Turn and turn again
Turn and turn again

I shake and stare at the sun 'til my eyes burn
I shake at the mother's brutal vermin
I shake and stare at the watery moon
With the same desire as the sober philistine
And I shake

Turn and turn again
Worm, the pain and blade
Turn and turn again

The screw is a tightening atrocity
I shake for the reeking flesh Is as romantic as hell
The need to have seen it all
The voyeur of utter destruction as beauty
And I shake

Worm, the pain and blade
Turn and turn again
I shake
Turn and turn again

I shake - I shake - I shake

bemenaker,

I love this album. Still one of my favorite of all times. I got to see the concert tour Bowie did for this album, and he paired up with NIN for a dual bill. They played it as one long show, no breaks. NIN went on first, Bowie came out on stage with them, they did four songs together and NIN left the stage. Incredible show.

@bemenaker wow, that must have been really amazing live! I liked the sound NIN and Bowie had when they performed together.

One of my most favourite albums too.
