Here's an idea. How about putting the #Greenbelt under control and protection by a combined department that includes the province of #Ontario, the federal government and a citizen's group (with representation from environmental experts)? Changes would need to be approved by all 3 levels. Maybe that would avoid fiascos like this.
Time to see if the feds can get involved?
To all of the people who are happy that Trump has been arrested, I know you're happy that a bad person is suffering the consequences of their actions, but remember, "Prisons are universities of crime, maintained by the state." Don't start bootlicking the police. They're still you're enemy. They're not your friends. They aren't on your side.
Yup, just got told to "get on your bike and go back to where you came from". My 5 year old daughter was on her bike in front of her (before the car arrived) and after waiting a bit the woman started driving her car towards her, then stopped to yell at my girl to move. When I said "Seriously, you can't wait for a child?" she unbuckled her seat belt and stepped out like she was going to throw down on me, then said she was yelling for her to move because she "didn't want to hit my child". #yegbike
Amazing work you do @Free_Press - I admit I'm always hesitant to boost your posts because you routinely scoop others by hours on major stories coming out of Russia - and yet it always checks out in the end.
@justinling I've been hearing 'bomb on board' rather than 'shot down'. If Russia is responsible, a bomb seems more likely to me - more their style and an opportunity to deny direct involvement. Any thoughts?
The county also has concerns about the choice of locations for these projects on high-value agricultural land, and, in their view, what has been inadequate long-term land use planning.
This is zoning. Isn't it the county that decides these things? Aren't they complaining about themselves here?
Also, the land is owned by somebody who feels they will get more out of a renewable energy project than farming. I thought they types loved the free market.
C18 may be about profit sharing, sure, but the Meta backlash opens the door to it being part of a solution to a problem that's becoming intolerable.
To explain:
Many people don't understand the Internet is an open network, that they can type anything they want into that address bar. They have allowed corporate entities like Meta to profit off their identities and to become gatekeeper of their entire Internet experience and all the news they will ever consume.
Canada, US and other countries are facing a problem: Everything - hysteria over education standards, public health initiatives, climate action, increased hate crimes, radicalization of right-wing political parties - can be traced back to online communities where people share what other people claim is "just what everybody's thinking." It's a combinations of news and "news" in various arrangements reinforcing countless alternate views to reality.
This is why, to those of us who take the time to look outside the boundaries of the walled garden, these people often just come off as nutters. They're actually not, but they've been weened on information that presents itself as much internally consistent to them as it is divorced from what we understand reality to be.
We obviously can't just outright ban social media, so the start of a fix is education. Encourage people to take a breath and look outside their garden. Take in some of the greater context to the information they consume.
Meta's knee-jerk corporate bullying reaction to C18 can be a golden opportunity for educating users, changing behavior and loosening the grip of their cults.
Meta doesn't control the Internet, no one company does. Let's not let them pretend they do.
Say you wanted to share a CTV news story - be creative. Instead of deep linking, write a short synopsis and say "check out the full story and others by This Journalist on CTVNews." It's an inconvenience sure, but it's changing user behaviour for the better and drives traffic to the source.
Shout-out to "Johnny" whoever you are. Having a sandwich with Johnny's Pickle on the side. A tart, garlicky Lebanese cucumber flavour bomb with a bit of a spicy finish. Got them at Kiwan Farms (Hawthorn/Hunt Club) - the roadside farm produce outlet. At Kiwan they told me they're available elsewhere, but 'Johnny' is their cousin and their farm is the source of the cucumbers.
How good are these? Have I ever posted about food before? They're that good.
I made it so, dammit, I'm sharing. Text is a quote from his PEI stop.
What 'burns' me most is not only do most people get more back from the carbon tax than they pay - but what about the price we all pay in the form of the default carbon tax? The 'tax' we pay from extreme weather and fire? The costs of putting out fires? Of recovering from floods? The constant reconstruction?
Ryan Amato, the so-called "mastermind" behind #DougFord's #Greenbelt giveaway is a longtime PC staffer including stints with Patrick Brown & MPP Caroline Mulroney. According to the premier, Amato is single-handedly responsible for the entire $8-Billion scandal.
Mr. Amato had been holidaying in Italy since the release of the #AuditorGeneralReport, but has since returned. He remains on the #Ontario provincial govt payroll with full authority until further notice. #onpoli https://archive.ph/gjJ7W
