If I didn’t jot it down during the Ubuntu install, I end up going into my DHCP leases and finding the MAC address and the related IP from there» — you must have skipped on checking the guest agent option in proxmox or actually installing the qemu-guest-agent on the guest vm; with both conditions met, the ip should be immediately available via proxmox wui, static or dynamic.

i'll probably need to explain further: it's not as much the young adults' fault (naïvety and lack of responsibility) as the baffling complexity of the modern society and of the obligatory beurocratic procedures

imho, it is indefinitely more complex to survive in the «civilized society» of today than a century or two ago.

@RL_Dane @TerryHancock i used to print on an old brother hl-2040 (bought it used for 40 cad, didn't know better at the time) attached to a linux machine with cups server; just a bit of sysadmin magic to set up and it worked for years without as much as a hiccup… until the drum got too old and started messing up pages.

fortunately around that time i have bought an hp laserjet 3015dn with duplex… for 10 cad. in a very good condition, perfectly operational. switched the brother for it, hope to keep having zero problems for some years ahead ;-)

no color? for that price, i'll get my kids to work with pencils on my printouts if i really need it, i guess.

come on people, how difficult is it to grasp: anyone who intentionally hinders your freedom to run software (we're not talking price here, only the choice!) on a platform that promotes (in many ways) interoperability through open standards and respect of the user… obviously this anyone doesn't want the user to have freedom, interoperability and respect.

@bouriquet the moment you admit the opponent (in this case the #fascist #russian regime with the support of the massive percentage of the russian population, allies like iran and latent well-wishers like china, india) has a will-blocking threat over you, you're doomed and the defeat is just a matter of time.

i'm not even talking about #ukraine anymore: #nato is proving inpotent. it seemed like a powerful idea, but the first serious test in its history shows us: individually, members can be threatened, manipulated, neutralized and turned into hindrance one by one, without resorting to anything more serious like that nuclear power you mention. hence, as long as any nuclear owning enemy can apply the threat without actually using it — they'll get what they want.

sometimes there's no other way to stay alive then to fight. i know this will sound cruel and stupid, but now, ten years into the war ukraine has to fight for survival, i begin to hope that one day soon nato will have to fight for its own survival too — otherwise the impotent «democratic world» «protected» by the treaty is doomed indeed.

man, some people's self-assured ignorance and capacity for lies… they won't stop at anything just to continue not noticing the inhuman fascist regime that has been waging wars, murdering native populations, russifying and then occupying and annexing territories… since forever, and continue doing that in the 21st century.

#russia is a fascist state, russians are infected with #fascism. it's not just putin — the entire 140-million-strong population are basically fascists or «merely» apologets of robbing other nations of their languages and territories, this has never stopped (actually intensified!) after the collapse of ussr and has grown into an outright murdering war in #europe…

…and still there's always an asshole to persuade us it's ok that «russians» want to be with russia?

@maxim is being unethical and abusing locked-in clientelle really an adequate way of «protecting your product»? would taking your family hostage be acceptable too?

the problem with ethics is it's not defineable by law in all its details and nuances. corporations thus often ignore it, — but even worse, gradually they persuade (or train, in fact) you to accept their «ethics» as something inevitable.

the more i observe things like that (and people who accept this kind of «ethics»), the more respect i have for people like #rms and all those behind the foss movement.

@accretionist i understand that, and that's why i call them «latent fascism supporters» and not just «fascists»; and i do believe it's those people who actually enable fascism in 21st century by providing an inert base for propaganda and ideas the much smaller groups of actual fascists profit from and a dampher media that slows down or makes impossible organized antifascism initiatives.

i repeat: national-wide spread of fascism in the 21st century (like in #russia) would have been impossible but for those «latent fascism supporters» who pose for pacifists.

the rest is just excuses. imho, every human being participating in social life has a moral responsibility to stand for justice! those people like that one disregard that responsibility that's all there is: i don't believe they misunderstand what justice is or how it should be reestablished for the real peace to prevail. i really just can't believe that.
