It’s all fun and games until you realize that USB-C is a type of connector, not a protocol (doesn’t even have to be USB over it) and not a connector & protocol combination like most of what is depicted.

In other words, we switched from ports and connectors that had specific shapes for specific single protocols to a connector that looks the same but uses different protocols and mutually incompatible cables.

@thomasfuchs I think we already discussed that some time ago, but I’m still waiting for colour-coding for USB-C similar to how it was for PS/2. Blue for DP, Red für USB 2, Pink for USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, Moss for dumb PD up to 60W, Green for PD up to 100W, Neon Green for the new PD up to 1.21 Gigawatts, and so on. We'd also get back the 🌈 on Apple Thunderbolt cables too!

The 6502 chip (and variants of it) powering many home computers and consoles like the Apple I & II, the Commodore PET & 64, the Atari 2600 and 8-bit computers, the BBC Micro and the NES-just to name a few-will be half a century old next year. 😅

    @thomasfuchs we probably survived because debilitating illnesses couldn’t travel as far and fast up to a few 100 years ago and losing half of the kids under 10 and half the survivors before they got to 35 was accepted and somewhat mitigated by treating women as baby factories.

    Wetterfest, einfache Montage und Lademöglichkeit während der Fahrt, ohne das man Elektrotechnik studiert haben muss. Ich fahre ein vsf T-700 mit Nabenschaltung und Riemenantrieb. Mein Smartphone hat einen USB-C Anschluss. Gibt es so etwas überhaupt?

    @defcon42 @rjayasinghe @fedibikes ich nutze SP Connect mit dem Induktivlader, kA ob dein Smartphone das hat. Ich lese aber heraus, dass du vom Rad aufladen willst? Die Dynamos liefern da im Vergleich nur wenig Strom, i.e. da muss dann über paar mehrere km gesammelt werden, bevor es sinnvoll für ein Handy reicht. Da gibt es n paar Produkte mit Zwischenspeicher/Akku, mein Schrauber meinte aber die waren sehr Fehleranfällig und inzwischen nicht mehr sinnvoll am Markt, hat kein ausreichendes Interesse gefunden.

    Now THAT is an angle that completely escaped me. I figured they'd only ever want to make charging hardware for their own network, but now that we are careening towards their plug standard, it makes sense for non-exclusive networks to buy their hardware.

    And to be honest, this is a good thing because Tesla's charging hardware actually works.

    Anyone got suggestions for a #CLI / #terminal #colorscheme that

    • provides a standard 16(! not 8!) set of ANSI colors that actually correspond to the standard colors (i.e. green looks green, blue looks blue etc.)
    • has good contrast between most of these colors, so that if a CLI tool decides to use gray-on-blue status bars, it’s still readable (this is actually the most important feature)
    • uses neutral or warm colors (no blue-ish tint)
    • optionally: has a 256-color variant for #Vim or #Neovim

    @scy ich glaube https://github.com/chriskempson/base16 sollte allgemein 1, 2 und 4 erfüllen, 3 müsstest du durchschauen. Es gibt auch eigene Projekte für vim/nvim und andere Sachen. IIRC war da auch etwas Gemeckere wegen Projekt geht nicht weiter und Fork und so, weiß aber nicht mehr wie das weitergegangen war 😕

    Liebes , wir können beim Abbau einem seltenen Naturspektakel beiwohnen. Das Rudel Bredenoords hat scheinbar ein Kleines bekommen. Das scheue Jungtier streckt sich erst unter dem Deckmantel der Dunkelheit voll aus und bittet die älteren Tiere durch ein helles Lichtspektakel gefüttert zu werden, tagsüber ruht es, wie hier auf dem Bild zu sehen. Zum nächsten Camp in 4 Jahren wird es ausgewachsen und kräftig genug sein um mit dem restlichen Rudel für ausreichend Strom für uns zu sorgen 🥰
