Parts of northern and central India are sweltering under a severe heatwave, with a provisional record temperature of 52.3C (126.1F) registered in Delhi. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c166xxd4y36o.amp People are getting sick. The only choice is to stay indoors and stay hydrated. Congratulations to all global warming deniers who are making life hell for the majority of us.
@nixCraft The problem isn't so much climate change denial, more so it is down to capitalism and greed. Fossil Fuels make too much money and the people making money off them can afford to bribe politicians so legislation curbing their use won't be enacted so long as they exist. The average person has no say in the matter - denier or not.
What was your first online PvP experience? For me, it was C&C Tiberian Sun, on a 56k modem some time in 1999. After that I had a long gap until Splinter Cell double Agent in 2006!
@PixelBandits I can't remember which was first but it was either Half-Life Deathmatch or Age of Empires. I think that was sometime around the turn of the century as well.
@rez I don’t think access to hardware is the issue, the steam deck or an equivalent spec PC are very affordable especially compared to dev units for other systems, not to mention they could also just run a VM set to approximate the spec too. Plus Valve have lowered the barrier to entry so much due to proton that devs don’t even have to create a linux build for their games anymore.
@thunderbird not sure if this is exactly the same issue, in my case the entire inbox disappeared following a failure to retrieve new mails - not just individual emails being deleted, (In fact i have never encountered an issue with individual mails being deleted) then it automatically started re-downloading the entire inbox when i restarted the app.
It's my day off, i needed to print a label to send something back to amazon but my printers ink ran out/dried up, so i think to myself "hey there's a little computer shop at the end of my road that I've bought from before, why not save myself some time and go buy from them instead of ordering from amazon and have to wait?" - walk to the shop and they're closed (it's only 3 PM) - end up ordering from amazon anyway for next day delivery. It's hard supporting local businesses when they aren't open.
On the plus side though, I was amazed that this now 15 year old Canon Inkjet printer just worked straight away on my #Linux Laptop. No having to download and install software like in #Windows or having to pick from a menu and hope it's supported like #MacOS - Linux just detected it as soon as it was plugged in then seconds later said it was ready to use without me having to do anything! Amazing.
@CenturyAvocado@usebottles Actually, don't bother, it won't install. I tried using the standard installer, got an error and it failed, same with the offline installer from the git hub page, and the "portable" version won't even open!?
“Visits to media piracy websites were on the rise in 2023, according to a new industry report. And as piracy shoots up, streamers’ subscriber bases are dropping.
Services like Disney+ and Hulu are steadily losing customers, with paid subscriptions down by as much as 7% by the end of the year.”
@matt if they didn't keep raising their prices while simultaneously removing first party content that you expect to be there forever and penalising account sharing while not offering discounted family packages they might not have this problem.
Unpopular opinion: #Gaming on #Linux is better than gaming on Windows.
For the most part games "just work" on Linux, while on Windows it's a Russian roulette. Something always breaks apart for no reason and I need to play OS mechanic instead of enjoying #VideoGames. I have never had such a good #PCgaming experience ever before and I did not believe this day would come. You love to see it!
@darth It's weird, it used to be the other way around. I still keep a windows PC around for compatibility purposes but i'm finding i need it less and less these days.
Whenever i connect my Steam Deck to my third party USB-C dock i don't get any sound through the HDMI port. I have to switch to desktop mode, manually select the output then switch back to Game mode for it to work. It wont let me select that output in the normal deck UI's settings and I have to repeat the process if i unplug the dock or reboot the system. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix?
@milosz tbh the only reason i didn't go with the Official dock is the price. It's way too expensive for what it is IMO. Third party equivalents are like half the price and they have the first party one priced like an enterprise level Laptop dock for what is essentially a glorified USB hub.
Was reminded about the X-Men Animated Series from the 90s. Looked it up and they haven’t put these out on DVD or BR. May need to try and find it on the Interwebz because I couldn’t pay for it even if I wanted to; it’s not available. How are amazing shows like this getting preserved?
@teamtuck as far as I can see all the original seasons are available in DVD box sets on Amazon. Here’s a link to the complete set or you can get each season individually.
Has anyone else noticed a problem with #plex subtitles on ad supported content? I was watching a foreign language film with subtitles and every time it went to an ad break Plex would disable the subtitles and the only way to get them back was to go to playback settings and turn the subtitles off and on each time. This is extremely annoying to have to do this, considering how many ad breaks they insert into the average film on this platform.
@plex I also have to add that the ad breaks would be a lot more tolerable if they didnt repeat the same ad multiple times in a single break, surely #plex has enough unique adverts they can fill each slot with without repeating the same one multiple times. On top of the subtitle issue this just makes the experience of watching ad supported content even more frustrating to the point where i think i may have been better off pirating the content rather than trying to watch it through legit means.
Trying to find some articles to post with a winter/Christmas theme.
Surprisingly, this is a lot harder that I thought...
Besides the obvious picks like snowboard games, I can think of games like Diddy Kong Racing with it's incredible snow track, Christmas NiGHTS, Die Hard Trilogy, Gremlins and such, but not much else.
So if you can think of a good one, let me know and I'll try to hunt down the articles. 😉
@OutofPrintArchive Have you archived any Official Xbox Magazine? That was going til 2020 and Dead Rising 4 was a timed exclusive for that system when it released in 2016/2017 so i presume that may have an article on the game. I believe EGM and Game Informer also reviewed it according to wikipedia at least. PC Gamer might have one too.
Oh boy here we go again with 32 bit signed int time_t problem. This is a real problem. Unix is embedded in lots of stuff that doesn't update. We will have real issues with those systems
