I had enough of AI results in searches, so just spent a couple of hours getting searxng running in docker, and I have to say it's refreshing seeing search looking like it used to, especially with no tracking 😄

It does use multiple engines to get the actual searches, need to look at how to customize that.

Anyhow, all of my desktop browser's now use it by default & I've even got the Android phone using it as a default now.

Deep joy. Greedy RealVNC is taking away the ability to use more than three copies of it at home, free. I shall, of course, switch to TightVNC. I expect they thought aged hobbyists had loads of money they could grab...

@santiago I've got an M.2 SATA SSD in my amiga A1200 - via a M..2 to Sata then to IDE adaptor so it connects to the amigas PATA port.

As for speed, it's really fast as the amiga can't push the drive to it's limits

The Amstrad Notepad Computer NC100 from 1992, sporting a Z80, 64K of ram, parallel printer port & RS232 serial port.

Runs off 4 AA batteries & one CR2032 for backup.

This one needs some work as it keeps saying the lithium battery is low when a new one is inserted & the stop key sticks, but otherwise works well.

@ukscone I've not seen any spares for this other than a replacement screen cable.

That said I've not really looked, suspect the stop key is just the spring so hopefully I have something compatible here already

Could a transit agency create custom methods for sharing data about delays, and route changes while running their own fediverse server? Could this be integrated with existing transit protocols?

I've wanted to see a universal format for sharing "trips" (a transit route at a specified time with start and destination data.)

Riders could share trips to coordinate plans, trips could contain real-time data from the agency...

Need some suggestions for what I can replace these fluorescent tube lights in the conservatory.

There are three of them. I want to replace them with something that is:

  • super bright. The brighter, the better.
  • controllable colour temperature
  • dimmable
  • smart controllable

I don't think there are any zigbee LED tube lights that I can just swap in like that?

@mhamzahkhan I can't remember who, but did see on YouTube the other day someone replace tubes with leds.

That said, seems OSRAM did do one but seems unavailable at the moment - but at least they do exist

They must provide clear information and allow continued access to games if sold on the understanding that they will remain playable indefinitely."

@FrostyPops I would still recommend it, it's been working perfectly for me with Linux Mint for the last 10 months.

The only issue I've had was that hibernation can cause issues with the screens, so if the lid is closed then opening it can cause the touch screens to fail like I mentioned in the article.

However, as I rarely use that it's not really a problem - I tend to fully shutdown each time.

A 21 year old harddrive that I thought I had lost years ago.

Yes, it's a harddrive in the CF (Compact Flash) form factor from 2003 which spins at 4200 RPM.

I had this originally for use with an early Canon digital SLR camera I had at the time.

Need to find the CF USB adapter to see if it's still usable or has anything on it.

Looks like 's own M.2 hat has been released this morning & it's £11.50 / $12

Looks compact and supports the active cooler.

The downside I can see is that it only supports 2230 & 2242 M.2 devices, so the more common 2280 M.2 ssd's won't fit.

@acb It doesn't look like it other than it's a HAT so goes on top, so would be compatible with most other cases, as Pimoroni's ones go underneath the PI - the only issue I have with the 2 PI's I have the Pimoroni base on that I can't fit them in a case.

Well the M.2 hat is installed & it's booting from a 1Tb NVMe drive.

It's a lot less fiddly than the base units I have & there's clearance so it doesn't affect the active cooler.

That said it's a tight fit for the official case & the screws it comes with are too short for the case so you need longer screws to secure it completely.

Also the top is very tight & without those screws it's easy to accidentally remove the hat by accident when powered up if it's used.

Are those passthrough RJ45 crimps easier to use?

I struggle (I think possibly due to my Dyspraxia) getting the wires in the right order when making an ethernet cable and interested if that style would be easier.
