Every good #SEO gets up in the morning and checks GSC (and Bing WMT) to see if anything has changed overnight. But that can take an age if you have a few sites to check.

Here is my Looker Studio dashboard that i can glance at - three pages, this one is my side projects including my own site which is having a hard time with clicks and yet impressions strengthen. All fur coat and no knickers as my gran would say.

Looks a bit like this (very similar to yours!).

(and my Mum uses that same phrase)

I'm interested that you don't include any position data on yours (unless I missed it?).

I find that pretty handy, especially when impressions skyrocket - before I get excited I can see - for example - avg. position has dipped.

If it hasn't then I may get excited again. 😄

Mostly it's the familiar "Impressions up, avg. position down" story.

But top left? Seems impressions up, rankings up... but not clicks? Yet?

👉🏻 It doesn't index the destination page
👉🏻 It sees redirect as a DOM update and uses the content of the destination page

I wonder if Googlebot would behave differently if the original/start page was not blank?

I still think Googlebot crawls a lot without javascript (like a 'forward scout bot') so if the page the scout found wasn't empty - would it behave differently? 🤔

@simoncox There are literally thousands though. I know this sort of 'game' is "I only need one dart to hit..." to make a profit but... wow.

I mean, none of it ranks so it's not quite "SEOs ruined the internet" but man... it's a lot of tripe. A. LOT. 😄

Annoyingly getting failures in GSC for the one site I am currently working on - URL inspector works fine right now on other sites I have just tested.

Have to come back and do it again tomorrow but I want this new page indexed right now though...

@simoncox GSC seems more and more buggy lately and contradictory.

So many URLs listed as being not indexed for one reason or another - but are consistently ranking, getting clicks and impressions and in the inspection tool are showing as indexed.

Launched a little side project site in August to test a few things out, as you do, well as I do, and one of the things that is a good #seo health check on a site is the distribution of ranking positions. The first image is from SEOtesting.com - and the second shows the keywords I actually rank check.

For this site there was a sudden uplift on Nov 3rd - shown in the 2nd image (but not yet on GSC so not on the 1st for a couple of days yet). I did nothing on this site for the past 17 days.

I still hold that The Verge has been killing it this year with Google/SEO coverage. This article starts out a bit negative and over the top, but I think that's on purpose. It ended up being one of the better pieces I've read recently about our industry and had input from a lot of people in the industry I respect (Lilly Ray and Matt Cutts being two examples)

@seowizwit It's definitely an interesting (and engaging) read.

Found myself wincing through a few of the early paragraphs but, as you say, it got less vitriolic as the author's journey continued.

Not sure it quite gets to the nub though - and was (largely) focussed on small portions of the SEO industry (noticeably affilaites and ad-bait-click sites) - which is a small proportion of the web.

When trying to buy stuff (like a mattress) the web can be tricky to navigate - much like a mall I guess, everyone says they have the best/cheapest etc.

For users wanting to do a specific thing (buy a mattress) that's extremely frustrating - and therefore memorable.

When you Google "What was the name of the actor I just saw in that show who did" and Google nails it - it's less 'extreme' so more easily forgotten.
