@ilovechoclates_ Answer: they probably aren't - but some SEO brain somewhere worked out they have a sub-domain that's easily accessible/hackable and/or publishes UGC - so in they wade and pack it with spam and links.

I'd wager a lot of money there are pages there about more 'unusual' things than dating apps.

The whole AI/UGC thing makes me think that building a brand is the best thing one can do.

I think it's a good time that companies consider doing more than SEO.

Even though forums are regulated and are written by "real" people, who can actually go and verify that the stories they have written is true?

I sure have written a lot of fake stories on Quora on how my friend was looking hot after getting the plastic surgery.

@ilovechoclates_ @hegedusgergely Yup, I've switched away from SEMrush due to the pricing too... it just continues to spiral up and up as they 'add new tools' (often putting existing ones behind a new paywall).

I've switched to @seranking and loving it so far!

@Fizzle_Up @ilovechoclates_ @hegedusgergely @seranking Apart from the fact it's a fraction of the price of the SEMrush and Ahrefs?

The rank tracking (also for competitors) is good, and you can locate it to a given country etc. The support is also super responsive and helpful.

@Fizzle_Up @ilovechoclates_ @hegedusgergely @seranking Right? That was my main driver - the costs are already high and spiralling upwards and often it's felt like for a lesser product (e.g. new tools were 'trialled' then moved behind another pay wall/pay level).

@simoncox @goldenseoprotocol I think it was that last one. Martijn was having trouble getting Google to index the pages, at all.

I suggested an HTML sitemap may help. Child be correlation & causation but the pages then got indexed which - as you say - would certainly help traffic & rankings! 😄

This is just sad... Why would I care about a French Railroad retrospective? Especially since last travel was a mess I had to rebook another train to get home. There are no stats about how many hours of delay, strange 😁
So, about this favorite route: that train goes from south of France to Luxembourg. Strasbourg - Lux is a small part of it. When I saw it was announced with delay of 1h, I booked another one last minute, because I'm used to the mess....

Gotta love when a marketing team does the "It'll be like [x] but for our brand!"... and it spectacularly backfires, because you are NOT that brand.

Monzo, a bank, trying to do 'Like Spotify Unwrapped... but for banking!' was destined to fail from the start.

And yet... I can hear the marketing meeting now... and what a "Great idea!" it was. 😖

I used to have an article on the home page of my site. I moved it inside the site, but the main page is still ranking for the same queries. I couldn't do a 301 redirect to the new page. How to be and how to change the ranking? #SEO #HELP

Internal linking can be a big clue to Google - so a link from your homepage, to the article, using the term(s) the article should/could/would/does rank for will help it re-jig things.

Likewise external links. If prominent site(s) linked to your homepage to read that article, ask if they can update the link to the new location.

Then it's the ol' waiting game.

Are you okay with people posting the same thing on different platforms? For example, if I post the same thing on Mastodon, Twitter, Bluesky, and LinkedIn.

I know many people do it, but I wanted to know if you feel it weird or not.

The other thing I feel is important is that it's OK to take shortcuts like that so long as you're engaged on all the platforms you post on.

If I reply to you on [platform] I'd want you to see it and potentially engage/reply etc.

All too often people are just using the megaphone of social media and forgetting the ears part. 👂

Just had an email from Fitbit - they have postponed forcing Fitbit account owners to tie the account in with a Google account (Goole now own Fitbit) until 2025.

I have not used my Fitbit (v1) since it broke many many years ago - got it when they Kickstarted. It was great at the time but now I am downloading my data from Fitbit and once that is done I will be deleting it from Fitbit and my account. I don't want that data on my Google profile. Privacy is becoming hard.

I really really dislike leaf blowers.

We have a lot of trees. Oaks, beech and others. So the lawn is blanketed in leaves at this time of year.

So I got a gadget.

A hand pushed Gardenia leaf and grass collector.

I HATE leaf blowers. Just such a noisy, unpleasant, irritating, energy wasting pointless exercise.

They just move the leaves from one place to another. And sure enough, 24hrs later the wind moves them back again.

(Is this a bit like in Chernobyl where they were relieved the Geiger counters showed the radiation was 'only 3.6 R/h'... when in fact, it was just that was as high as the counter's range went.)

Every good #SEO gets up in the morning and checks GSC (and Bing WMT) to see if anything has changed overnight. But that can take an age if you have a few sites to check.

Here is my Looker Studio dashboard that i can glance at - three pages, this one is my side projects including my own site which is having a hard time with clicks and yet impressions strengthen. All fur coat and no knickers as my gran would say.
