It feels like this is just spiralling out of control with tech companies racing one another because they CAN with no-one thinking about if they SHOULD. 😖

Even looking at the navigation on the BBC News website it's depressing.

I know these are important things and not ignoring them is important but... oooooff.

Ok, diagnostic help please.

Why might a site work fine in a new browser, incognito etc.

But in an 'old' Chrome browser all the images hang and don't load (but otherwise the site functions ok).

Scratching my head a bit here (and no, I can't share URLs I'm afraid!).

@simoncox Now, pleasingly (for me) I HAD thought of this one.

I've spent the morning faffing with cookies, caches and the like to no avail.

I think @jemjabella has helped me narrow it down to an issue with javascript (when isn't it, eh?). 😄

This is the sort of thing I'm seeing in terms of some sites tanking.

First image is @sistrix visibility data for a domain (kindly noted by @stevechippy).

The second image is their 'programmatic SEO' approach to building pages with 'Fitting Instructions' on a subdomain, with product links and ZERO useful information. Purely for ranking purposes.

Published in 2021 but they "haven't got to it yet". 🤔

An example of a useless "Fitting Instructions" page on the site in question, posted in 2021 yet still incomplete with "We haven't got to this one yet, sorry!" messaging

My last mince pie of 'the season'... after strict instructions from my wife that "They'd better all be gone by the end of January!" when she saw I'd been stockpiling.

Still one of my biggest eyeroll moments in #seo - #Google Business Profiles showing maps that look like this for UK businesses.

Both because the website owners should spot this and work out how to fix it.

But mostly because this is just a silly oversight by Google which could be easily fixed.

Gotta love when a marketing team does the "It'll be like [x] but for our brand!"... and it spectacularly backfires, because you are NOT that brand.

Monzo, a bank, trying to do 'Like Spotify Unwrapped... but for banking!' was destined to fail from the start.

And yet... I can hear the marketing meeting now... and what a "Great idea!" it was. 😖

@optimisey I got a Steam Deck a few weeks ago and just got a Steam Wrapped today. I've been playing 1 game for a couple of weeks, I'm not sure I need a reminder 😆

Like most media services, I reckon Wrapped would still work though, but you need enough data!
