Ура, нарешті хтось із українських "мислителів" взагалі заговорив на цю тему. Бо ці рівні довбаного газлайтингу із серйозним обговоренням різниці зарплат ч і ж в реаліях середини 2023 починають викликати активні сумніви в адекватності цілої країни.

Someone's asked me to remind people to set the image focus / crop centre tool when uploading images on Mastodon.

Although the Mastodon default web interface no longer crops images, some other apps and interfaces do, and images may be difficult to see on some timelines if the focus hasn't been set.

To set focus on Mastodon web interface:

  1. Attach image
  2. Click Edit
  3. Choose focus point
  4. Click Apply

Apps will have various interfaces for setting focus.

@feditips Negative. If we want mastodon to provide successful place for communication, the software should provide reasonable behavior rather than require users to hack it. This resembles the typical philosophy of walled gardens such as twitter: "we provide you the service, you are dependent on it, we will not explain how we do things, but in order to be successful, you have to learn the cheats how to promote yourself on our brilliant platform(tm)"

    There is only one reason why all of this is called "illegal migration"(tm) - because the obvious migration due to war is not normally regulated by law.

    Asyl is for a handful of politics and activists, not for massive flows.

    Current way of illegal entry -> Asylantrag -> months of evaluation -> denial -> Duldung is basically ill and exists only because there is no other.

    Well, ok, there is vorübergehende Schutz, but now is implemented for Ukrainians only - quite successful, as I can see.

    Duldung doesn't normally allow to work and to have decent medical care - and then they wonder why there are a lot of people who need social help. And why they go to Germany instead of dispersing elsewhere.

    I can compare with Ukrainians in Czechia - the social help is very low here (barely survivable) but folks are allowed to work and look for job quite intensively. Not so easy with small kids, though. But there is no obsession to reach Germany no matter what.

    And, surely, it is always necessary to remember who creates problems on this globe. "Peace is not when there is no war, peace is when there is no moscow"(c)

    @jabberati @debacle #conversations should support it. It requires #openkeychain to manage keys, but in general claims the support. I haven't tried it, thought, but am about to.

    This is basically the problem that the decisions in crypto methods are influenced more by theoretical scenarios than practical workflows...

    @alexcleac the problem is that even the fucking govt doesn't really follow recommendation of its own reasonable folks.

    But yes, telegram is a problem. Luckily, the vast majority of people have something else, and even WhatsApp doesn't look as so grim threat (at least western intelligence will read it instead of ru one).

    Controversial #academic opinion:
    Search committees shouldn’t request letters of recommendation from candidates until the phone interview stage, at the earliest. Take the pressure off of the candidates, their mentors, and the committee members.

    @beatnikprof @academicchatter yes indeed. It is a large burden to prepare recommendation letters for each position considering that the "success rate" is really low.

    Request of contacts of the recommending persons is also a viable solution.

    According to Google Trends, during the past few years, there has been nothing but a few minor bumps that faded away as quickly as they came. I love RSS because i do not have to scroll through dozens of different news sites all day and i would love it to return....
