The reason why Microsoft Recall attracts huge amounts of hate, while TimeSnapper.com has generally positive customer interactions comes down to 3 things:
Motive Weapon Opportunity.
I don’t have a motive to surveill the world, Microsoft have shareholders, middle managers etc.
Weapon - We both write software that could be used for harm. But we’re genuine about user’s informed ongoing consent, having filters etc.
Opportunity - we don’t have enough servers to spy on people. MS do.
@secretgeek Also, if I want to use TimeSnapper, I have to choose to do so, and install it myself.
Recall just comes with the OS and is (probably) activated by default.
Is it even turned off when it says it is? Who knows.
So I've just been doing some tidying in the garage and I found this old #Compaq#Netbook. I've put it on charge, but do we think it will boot, and what OS do we think it's running?
My parents are both dying of cancer right now. This is unquestionably the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life. I would never wish this upon my worst enemy (not that I have a lot). I cant sleep. I can’t eat. I want to smash my skull into a brick wall. But my family needs me now
Parker Lewis Can't Lose... I only vaguely recall this show... looks like a Ferris Bueller ripoff which they directly reference in this ad. Archive.org has the entire series... worth a look?
@johann The question is. Why would Superman steal your bike, if he can just fly?
Also, driving a bike with a cape that long is just asking for an accident.
#Fedivision votes are in.
I ended up voting for EMPW BKTH & BLAH
Lots of good things in there though. My shortlist was 7 tunes I really liked also including BELT NEUT TASS & UDIL
@socool when your track came up in my playlist while I was working, I was like: wait? what is this? this is nice, do I know this? Then it hit me it was yours. 😁 Lovely track. So nice.
@JoYo One of my go-to places for stomping 909s is the Rotterdam based PRSPCT label. For your gabber fix I would say check out releases from Deathmachine, the Worst of UK Hardcore compilation, and Outside Agency stuff. The Best of.. compilations are also a good entry point.
I'm about to update my book on #vim but as I am now mostly using #neovim, I'm a little bit outdated about #vim plugin management. What would you recommend instead of pathogen (for vim, not for neovim)?
@vjousse What did you end up using? I found out Vundle is broken today.
I'm probably going to switch to the plain vim package manager, instead of using something custom.
I don't know if neovim has the same thing built in?
Microsoft's "Recall" is similar to "TimeSnapper", that Atli and I have been developing and distributing for the past 17 years or so.
I'm fascinated by the reaction that Microsoft get, compared to what we receive at TimeSnapper.
People are naturally curious about performance impacts, and hope to keep all data local. But when "we" (TimeSnapper) say the data stays on your machine, customers just believe us.
Microsoft, meanwhile, is emphatically not trusted.
@secretgeek MS has been trying to push everyone to the cloud by forcing you to use an MS account to log in to Windows (to sync your settings, remember) and use OneDrive to sync your data, etc.
And now they say they will spy on your Windows usage but keep it all nicely local? Yeah, right. 😉
