@webcomictalk Currently in the process of switching to a new layout:

https://lwflouisa.github.io/UploadedFairy/

I use a static website engine, so it took a while to switch away from Jekyll.

Look forward to reading others comics.

lwflouisa,

@webcomictalk Ah you mean layout wise? I'll see what I can do increase the contrast.

@webcomictalk Anyway thanks for letting me, I think I was a bit over zelous with making the text color subtlely different.

I feel like I've covered most questions I wanted to ask regarding the creative process of over the 27 weeks worth of questions. I may reduce the number of questions going forward and try to pivot to a more open discussion for the future.

I am wondering what else to do with this account beyond boosting webcomics. I'm open to suggestions.

Welcome to , the Fediverse's discussion hashtag. Our topic this week is "sound effects." We have 4 questions this week over 4 days.

Question 1: "Do you include sound effects in your comic? Why or why not?"

You can answer the question whenever you see it on your timeline. Please boost and include the hashtag so we can find other creators and they can share their thoughts.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@webcomictalk Not usually, mostly because I tend to also place captions under rather than within the film, and largely intend a silent film like effect. This has caused some issues when wanting to submit to Silent Manga Audition.

Few games are more poorly served by being rendered at a higher resolution than the original PS1's output.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@mrencyclopedia This might seem wild but I didn't play the original game until sometime around 2007.

Not sure how to feel about the DRMification of the game.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@mrencyclopedia In fact the recent development in gaming is making me strongly thing about the direction Id like to go. I think my worry is browser game engines might be just as prone to the issues Cory Doctorow talks about, with things getting worse over time.

I think even RPG Maker series had a fair bit of that going on.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@mrencyclopedia Like on the PS1, or some other system?

I'm considering PS1, as a form of learning to work within fewer resources.

Welcome to , the Fediverse discussion hashtag. This week's topic is "Crossovers" and this is our last question this week.

Question Five: "How do you feel about non-canon crossovers? Are you fine with those or do you put continuity above everything?"

Please feel free to answer the question whenever you see it. Consider boosting and using the hashtag to spread the discussion around.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@webcomictalk Question is profile privacy / publicity not working for anyone else? I checked a couple of instances I'm on, and the post privacy settings ( whether or not to make your profile public ) is gone.

Welcome to , the Fediverse discussion hashtag. This week's top is "Crossovers" and we have five questions over five days.

Question One: "What is your stance on crossovers in webcomics? Do they add to or detract from a story?"

Please feel free to answer the question whenever you see it. Consider boosting and using the hashtag to spread the discussion around.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@webcomictalk If it's a crossover within the artist's own universe, I'm a really big fan of metanarratives.

Where I tend to draw a line is when it's places like Marvel or DC where you're working with licensed characters you don't own.

Or in places where there's strong peer pressure, even if you own the rights, to cross-over with others work to create a author rights quagmire.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@linebyline @webcomictalk As an anecdote I'm in a situation where I have to think carefully what new stories I write or draw, otherwise I contradict established aspects of that setting.

I already have two universes, originally the same one, but split after a specific point.

I keep telling people. THE ALGORITHM IS THE PROBLEM.

Turns out a chronological feed encourages organic engagement which is generally better engagement.

An algorithmic feeds rewards bad behavior and a wildly inconsistent amount of engagement.

@renwillis @BBCRD @peterbutler I'm curious if that might be way for some people their audience might be bigger off of places with algorithmic feeds rather than organic engagement?

Welcome to , the discussion hashtag on the Fediverse - this week's topic is - "you!" We'll have four questions to go.

Question #2: "What are your favorite colors? Have those colors found their way into your comic to a significant degree?"

Please boost the question so other creators can join in on the fun. You can answer the question any time you'd like. Please include the hashtag in your response.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@webcomictalk My color palette started out as fairly limited, but gradually expanded over time. Traditionally I would use very dark Earth tones reminiscent of old western movies.

Eventually I started using a lot more neon do to the fact that bassanova is a common musical form in that setting, along with dark jazz.

My favorite of this is Earthy red and Lime green, because they clash rather than complement.

@webcomictalk

Generally its less exact character traits ( like say Hemato Tomatoes personality ) and more an overall philosophy and interest in obscure psychological facts and trivia.

I also like to use muted variations of colors to enhance the mood. That full color or monochrome doesnt capture.

"I didn’t join Mastodon until after we launched 404 Media. I joined, frankly, because lots of people told me that we should. Mastodon had been decried by many (me, previously), as a social media platform that is too complicated or weird to sign up for. I had also convinced myself that people on Mastodon would be mad at me if I made jokes, which has (mostly) not been the case.

I’ve now been using it for about two months and I am here to tell you that it is, in principle, what we should want the internet to be. If you have been remotely interested in Mastodon but had reservations about joining because you thought it would be difficult, confusing, or otherwise annoying, it is not."

@dangoodin I find it easier to limit the reach of far right extremists, unlike twitter where to even be remotely useable by a left wing person you have chain block a bunch of sock puppets.

Here all you have to do is block the domain spammers come from, and its back to peace of mind.

Much better if you have chronic ptsd.

Good morning to readers; Kyiv remains in Ukrainian hands.

In #Kyiv, there's a building labeled 'The Church of St. Elon,' in Russian, no less!

Plus, #Ukraine reaction to Israel news:

I've come to the conclusion that the strictly reverse chronological timeline enforced by is a horrible idea, and the more I use Mastodon the more I'm convinced of this. Before anyone jumps me for misunderstanding my complaint, I'm not going to advocate for an algorithmic-manipulated timeline: I'll argue in favor of something completely different.

@oblomov I would love a video site with an interface more like RSS or Email in fact.

Most of my skills is built around Jekyll sites and RSS, so it makes Fediverse instances, at times, hard to understand.

Gwendolyn, to music

I was struggling with writing songs with vocals, so I went and grabbed Alter/Ego so I could use some synth voices to rough things out.

So far that has helped a ton. Since I have very little time when I'm alone and can just be loud, I can work on laying out the rough vocals silently on headphones.

Only problem is I find it pretty unstable. It crashes rather frequently.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@Gwendolyn What software you use? I use audacity as it gives me an 8 bit sound.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@Gwendolyn Im running into this issue where I have to electronically generate some tones, as they dont exist in 12 equal temperament.

lwflouisa,
@lwflouisa@comics.town avatar

@Gwendolyn Yea specifically:

Xenharmonic equivalents to Bb-B-Eb-F-Fsharp.

The fantasy culture Im working with uses Quarter Tones.
