There's something incredibly enjoyable about my neighbourhood in the summer on a sunny "long week-end" when construction stops; you can hear the wind, birds chirping, playful children in the area…

I've been subconsciously traumatized by the last 10 years of uninterrupted roadworks & building construction noises; it's why in the past 2 years I often escaped the city during weekdays and come back to it on week-ends.
I hope to spend time there more often in 2025; #Montreal is lovely when quiet.

Someone actually built a Chrome extension to "Hide annoying Google AI Overviews". LOL. Right now it only has 2,000 users, but I wouldn't be surprised if it reaches millions in a few months when SGE (Search Generative Experience) will be rolled out globally. https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/hide-google-ai-overviews/neibhohkbmfjninidnaoacabkjonbahn Duckduckgo is also releasing similar tech using AI .

@nixCraft I tried to replace #googlesearch with #duckduckgo for a few months, but I was missing interesting links, so I was using more and more the !g to switch to Google Search.

Finally, I switched to #whoogle a #selfhosted version version of Google Search without any ads, JavaScript, AMP links, cookies, IP address tracking or Overviews.

Found an interesting Calc scrolling performance bug report in Bugzilla some days ago, that was reported to be more visible with HiDPI screens, so tonight I grabbed a 4K laptop with Wayland and ran to try to capture at least partial performance profile information on this issue: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154602#c16

My journey started a month ago. I moved all my all my containers and VM from my NAS to a testing MiniPC with Proxmox.

This test was very positive, so I decided to move to a new server. I'm using a cluster to move my LXCs and VMs. I'm very impressed by how simple the process is for a newbie like me. I just need to remove my snapshots before.

Keep learning in my journey! 😊

So I've got a ProxMox server in my home lab now, and I am absolutely loving the freedom to create and destroy VMs at whim. It takes away so much of the fear about messing up personal laptops or the primary NAS i rely on for our household. A tinkerer's dream.

Just discovered that the original (German military) "jerrycans" fuel canisters' #design featured three handles at the top, among other things. It allows carrying by two people jointly, or carrying two empty cans in each hand for a single person. That was some really clever #industrialdesign there, and I wish I could easily find these as a civilian, for house chores. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerrycan#Design
