For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

@GossiTheDog @hacks4pancakes A long time ago, I saw a movie called "The Net", where multiple people's lives were ruined (including what was effectively an assassination) by surreptitious modification of digital records.

I think it's time to reboot The Net.

Watched the premier episode of and not only ran ads before the show but interrupted the show 3-4 times to play unskippable ads. 😡

Ads before were bad enough, but this is absolutely jarring & bullshit for a service I pay for.

Can't even seem to find any info about an ad-free tier for Canadian subscribers.

Really makes the "oh, it's streaming on Prime" discovery into a disappointment than good news.

@ramsey @syntaxseed when I watched it in Canada, it was sponsored commercial-break-free by some company with a green brand (not being cutevague; that's literally all I remember).

@jonikorpi serverless is scary because it can make wallets explode.

When you hand craft & name your servers, you limit your potential splash zone. Slightly.

But if you design your codebase so it /only/ runs on one server, you get the worst of both worlds.

I don't want to switch from Chrome to Firefox because Firefox is worse, so Google has been helpfully making Chrome continually worse so I won't have to worry about that

@mcc I've seemingly been blessed with the ability to tolerate all of FF's alleged quirks, which allows me to avoid having Chrome installed on my machines at all.

Removing Chrome from my machines turned out to be more complex and finicky than it should have been. They do some sneaky stuff.

I have just been informed that Plex has a bug where if you upload to your Plex server an album either credited to "Various Artists" or containing a mix of artists on each track, it will list that album in the UI as being by "KONAMI". This is apparently a known issue.

@timbray it's interesting that "bill maher" called modi out and said he wasn't afraid of potential reprisals, when it is known that modi is connected to at least two international assassinations. Didn't mention that aspect at all on his show, "Real Time With Bill Maher", either.
